Best rock lyric ever?

None more metal than Judas Priest.

Although some of Rob's lyrics have revealed an interesting subtext, in the fullness of time :

"Grinder, wants you to eat. Grinder, looking for meat"

You'll notice that song wasn't called Tinder.

Bear in mind it was Judas Priest that defined the uniform of Heavy Metal, as black leather & studs.

Turns out Rob was secretly visiting bondage shops, on Old Compton Street.

(Some ultra-macho metal heads, really struggle with the homoeroticism in metal's image - get over it! It's the music that matters).

I tried to love you I thought I could
I tried to own you I thought I would
I want to peel the skin from your face
Before the real you lays to waste

You told me I'm the only one
Sweet little angel you should have run
Lying, crying, dying to leave
Innocence creates my hell

Cheating myself still you know more
It would be so easy with a whore
Try to understand me little girl
My twisted passion to be your world

Lost inside my sick head
I live for you but I'm not alive
Take my hands before I kill
I still love you, but, I still burn

Love, hate, love

I like a great opening line in a song, like the fore-mentioned Doors tune: "Well, I woke up this morning..."

One of my favorites is Skynyrd's That Smell: "Whiskey bottles, and brand new cars, oak tree you're in my way..."

And although it's old school country (sorry), I dig this one by Waylon in Luckenbach Texas: "The only two things in life that make it worth livin' is guitars that tune good and firm feelin' women..."

The late Lux Interior, singer for The Cramps, extemporized often in interviews about how Elvis was the OG Punk.
This track rather supports that argument, and it really is rather amazing that E got this past censors and onto movie screens and mainstream radio.

As a kid, it always struck me as funny - but it took a long time to realise that it was probably subversive, rather than innocent.

Werewolves of London

I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand
Walking through the streets of SoHo in the rain
He was looking for a place called Lee Ho ****'s
Gonna get a big dish of beef chow mein

You hear him howling around your kitchen door
You better not let him in
Little old lady got mutilated late last night
Werewolves of London again

He's the hairy-handed gent who ran amuck in Kent
Lately he's been overheard in Mayfair
You better stay away from him
He'll rip your lungs out, Jim
I'd like to meet his tailor

Ghost Of A Chance - by Rush

I don't believe in destiny
Or the guiding hand of fate
I don't believe in forever
Or love as a mystical state
I don't believe in the stars or the planets
Or angels watching from above
But I believe there's a ghost of a chance
We can find someone to love
And make it last
And make it last

My three fave quotable lyrics aren’t from “rawk” songs but count within the broader rock genre for me.

“Why do you record my phone calls? Are you planning a bootleg LP” Gangsters by The Specials

...and on a similar theme...

“I’ve got an x-ray camera fitted in your house to see what I could see. That man you were kissing last night, definitely wasn’t me.” I Spy For The FBI by The Untouchables (and others)

“Now that I've met you
Would you object to
Never seeing each other again?”
and
“I can’t afford to
Climb aboard you.
No one's got that much ego to spend.”

Both from Deathly by Aimee Mann.
