Best rock/ metal bassist

I was just wondering who people respect most in the world of rock/ metal.

Personally I love the sound of Byron Stroud (strapping young lad/ fear factory/ zimmers hole), but a little less than Mr Jeordie White:

Just before you start with Geddy lee, we are not talking about soft rock, funk, ect, they dont count, its all too soft.

Well, there are 2 basic types of metal in my book.

You have the greats such as Iron Maiden, Rush, and Judas Priest... bands who demonstrated suberb musicianship and brilliant vocal abilities.

And then you have the stuff with all the growling and double bass drums. Ill pass on that

But to answer your question... Steve Harris .. hands down.

how is geddy lee too soft? listen to YYZ :D but whatever, if I can't choose him on account of being too soft I choose steve harris for being such a revolutionary bassist, cliff for making anaesthesia(pulling teeth),Justin chancellor for his superb work with tool and Al Cisneros of Sleep and OM

oh, and my all time favorite because of his wild style: scott reeder of kyuss

May not be be the best technical rock bassist but I think Brian Marshall from Alter Birdge sits perfectly in the band plays exactly when he should and adds a massive part to the sound. I also think Justin Chancellor is a mean player if we're looking at the metal(ish) side. Oh I cant forget Mr Myung either !

In terms of the heavier stuff, few people can lay hands on Steve Digiorgio in my own opinion. Also, if Sean Malone counts for his work with Cynic and Gordian Knot, he gets a big vote. Other guys not mentioned yet in my books are Lars Norberg, Erik Tiwaz, Matt Freeman (punk bassist from Rancid), and Stefan Fimmers off the top of my head.

If "br00t4l1ty" isn't a requirement, also check out Tony Franklin (the Firm, Blue Murder) and Marco Mendoza (Soul Sirkus, Whitesnake, Ted Nugent, etc...)
