My P-Bass which is mainly used for blues is strung with Ken Smith Compressors.
Not exactly a round, but not a flat or half round either... They are a Nickel-Iron Alloy. The outer wrap is compressed into an oval shape before being wound onto the string.
Similar strings are Rotosound Solo-Bass 55's, and other strings label Pressure Wound etc...
You get virtually none of the finger sliding screech that you get with round wounds on compressors / pressure wounds...
