Best screws

So I've read a lot on here about woods, strings, tort, pickups, and carrots. But I've yet to read what are the best screws to hold on a pickguard? Are the factory ones good metal? Are the good for metal?

Do they make metal metal screws? Or tort screws?

More companies should use black headed screws for dark colored guards, though.

I use threaded inserts and 4-40 aluminum anodized flat head socket head screws. Yeah, people get all over my case about "overkill". Well, who cares. I suppose Stradivarius had to listen to all the negative Nancys telling him he was spending too much time building each violin, too. Stainless works too if you want a shiny look. Black steel screws are a disaster since they get all rusty if they get damp.

I think the same idea works for metal too...only you use stainless steel 1/4- 20 hex head bolts to hold the pickguard on.

3/4" long sheet metal screws with 1/4" he heads.
They've held down my galvanized pick guard for years

Are you actually looking for a serious answer, or are you just trying to stir up the snark circus?

My serious recommendation: I use stainless steel oval head sheet metal screws, usually #4 x 1/2". Buff the heads, and they are nearly the same shine and look as chromed steel screws. Stronger and more reliable than the chromed screws that the guitar parts suppliers sell. Too many problems with the heads stripping out, screws snapping off, plating chipping off, etc.

For metal I would use these. Anything that sticks up that might scrape your skin off is great!

Yeah get you some 2 1/2" ones so you can screw your guard in from the back. They'll poke out the front a 1/2" or so. Now that's metal.
