Best screws

Method

Add 1 shot of vodka, 1 shot of Southern Comfort, 1 shot of sloe gin and 1 shot of Galliano to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake gently and strain into a highball glass with ice. Top up glass with orange juice.
 
The tiny little screws they use to hold the covers on Class D amps must be made of aluminum. I've rounded out the heads on a couple of them, even using a good solid bit.
It totally fecked up my chances of fixing the tubes in a GK Fusion amp today. I had spare tubes, but couldn't get the bleeding cover off to change them.
 
I use threaded inserts and 4-40 aluminum screws...Stainless works too if you want a shiny look...

With stainless you have a couple options. Go with 316 screws if you want a polished dinish, or 18-8 if you want a matte finish. Not much difference in the two but enough to make a difference if say you had a high gloss finish and guard to match, plug in some brushed screws to provide a little contrast. Same if you have a matte finish, drop in some polished screws to give it a little pop.

I'd bet they are JIS rather than phillips.

Ah, now I know, but it's too late.
I feel like an even bigger idiot now, because I just looked at my tiny screwdriver set and those are definitely JIS. DOH!
I was using a Phillips when I rounded out those screws though.

Just one comment. There is a slight color difference between Stainless steel and chrome plated hardware. So using stainless screws is not a perfect match. And chrome plated screws are often hard to find in odd configurations. ( I did find some button head with Allen socket in chrome plated useful for holding necks on with threaded inserts)

I think i failed to convey my thoughts. Small fasteners made from 316 stainless exit a swiss screw machine with a high polish due to the hardness of the material. Small fasteners made of softer grade 18-8 stainless will exit a swiss machine with no gloss. The reflective quality of the 316 fasteners is not due to a plating process but is the result of the feed/speed used to cut the steel.

No, I understood what you were saying about the difference between a high shine and a duller appearance. My point was that while both the 316 stainless screws and highly polished chromium plated screws are both silvery and shiny, in my opinion there is a slight (not huge but I seem to notice it...maybe I'm just looking for it) coloration difference between the plated shine and the stainless shine. The only way I can describe it is one (chromium) seems just a tad "yellower" to me.

Also I have taken the heads of 18-8 screws to a buffing wheel to give them a higher gloss as well. They also seem to have a slight color difference but as far as I'm concerned close enough unless I'm planing on building the Stradivarius of bass guitars or something.
