I own a Gretsch Electromatic Junior Jet and the Eastwood Hi-Flyer. I have been recently yearning for a Fender Mustang.

It looks like I have found my Bass twin!

One more vote for trying the Ibanez Mikro. Don't let the low price fool you into thinkin it's a toy. GreTsch is good too.

If you are interested in the Eastwood Hi-Flyer bass, I suggest that you try one at a local store prior to commiting to a purchase. It has a very distinctive sound.

For example, it is not necessarily a well suited instrument for someone who plays in a cover band because it does not sound like any of the more popular basses. It sounds like itself and you either like or don't like that sound.

Also, if you are Slap Happy, I suggest you look somewhere else. The neck pickup is located against the neck leaving little room to slap or pop the strings. I have tried to slap with it in the past and, on occasion, the neck pickup would just "shutdown". The neck pickup would stop emitting any sound. To bring it back to life, I had to unplug the bass, shut off the amp, power on the amp and then plug the bass back in. That is not a big issue for me; I play fingerstyle.

I just gave short (medium, really...32") a spin, but I couldn't get used to it. I just sold this '82 Ibanez RS271 Roadster this morning for $125. Nicely built little MIJ shorty, but just didn't work for me...

I have the Electromatic Jr. Jet, the Aria Diamond predecessor of the Hi-Flyer, AND a Bronco bass with Mustang stripes and a 2202 Jr. Jet pickup.

We are triplets!!

Here's the Bronco - which is rapidly becoming one of my favorite basses:

But to tell the truth, the best bass out of the box was DEFINITELY the Gretsch. It has a fanstastic sound, nice fit and finish, and great balance. The Bronco comes next, and the Aria is a long third. It's kind of a fun bass, but nothing special.

I just bought one of these after playing nearly every bass in about six different music stores around the city. I did not set out to buy a shorty and I've never owned one, but it plays like butter and absolutely growls! love it! I'm a little worried about tuning down (we're always down a half step, and usually dropped, so my E is a C#). I got the red one. can't say enough good things about it.
