Best short scale strings

That really depends on what type of string you like.
On my shorties I use GHS 3060 Tapewounds or if they are too long D'Addario SS Tapewounds. On the ones that aren't strung with Tapes, I use GHS Precision of Brite Flats.
I don't like anything about roundwounds, don't use them, even on my six strings I use flats, so have no ability to offer any recommendations there.

First, check the Strings forum. There are one or two mentions of short scale strings there. ;) Second, identify your tone goals. The "BEST" rounds will never sound good if you are after a flats tone, and vice versa. Third, be clear about whether price is a factor.

This is at least the third "best strings" thread in the last 48 hours.

No information about music, type of bass, playing style, etc.

And so on.....

I recently bought a SS and was wondering if it's possible/feasible to put regular scale strings on a shorty. Well...is it?

Short answer: usually, yes. It may be rather ugly because you'll be cutting in the large diameter playing area of the string. Some tuners may not accept the string...and there is a slight chance the string will break internally.

In a pinch or emergency, go for it. But if you want to do it right, use the right length strings.
