Best short scale under $1000?

Hi

I can only play short scales.I'm 70 years old with nerve damage in my hands.About four months ago I got a Warwick Short scale Rock Bass.i think it's perfect.Play at least one to two times a week.Sometimes more in a Oldies group.I think this short scale sounds better then most bass's.The problem is you can't find them to try.

Good luck!

Dave

I'd consider a warmoth. You could use the the parts you choose no need to upgade it to your liking. This is a cheap project,i had the neck bridge and pickup. The body and pickguard I bought here from the classifieds.

If you have some used parts on had and can live with a oil finish you can get away fairly cheaply. If you want one of their finished bodies and necks it can add up quickly.I have 25+ years of parts on hand from various basses.

How much do the tuners help? Your strap button experience runs counter to what I've found on head heavy instruments, so I'm interested in that too. Usually, it's moving the strap pin from the neck to the horn that helps.

The light tuners help (Gotoh 350 Res-O-Lites) but I've found that the light tuners in combination with putting a strap button behind neck heel instead of on the horn greatly improves the balance for me on every one of my shortscales (Fender and Squier, Hofner, Dano, Gretsch, Epiphone, Harmony, and Kay).

When using the lighter tuners with the strap button on the horn still applies too much down force on my left shoulder, using the strap button behind the heel relieves that instantly and the neck pretty much stays wherever I put it. I've also moved the lower strap button several inches up the bass side of the body in combination with the lighter tuners and neck heel strap button to good effect.

BTW, I also use a wide neoprene strap, similar to this one but the edges of the pad on mine are finished with binding
