Best Slap bass?

I love my urge II for slap.
The best thing to do is go out and try it out on every bass you can find.
And dont' forget the amp can make a HUGE difference in sound as well.

sorryI think that the best production bass for slap is a stingray5. There are tons of boutique basses that are great as well. Benavente, Nordstrand, MTD. All great slap tones. The Music Man slap tone is something I will always need in my arsenal, though.

You are correct, sir. Although I do love my HH and I know i'll love my HS.
But i'd have to agree with the single H SR5 slap tone. I've slapped other basses but my single H SR5 just has that special tone.
don't know, maybe a stingray or wal, but a stingray 5 does have a very similar slap sound!!

there are so many different good slap tones, just have to find what works for you. Stingrays are great, Jazzes are great, My carvin sounds really good, heck, even a P, although it is more muted in the top

absolutely true.
i like the slap tones i get out of my maple fingerboard stingray 5, modulus Q6 (w/2tek), and my ash bodied japanese tune TWB5, but they all have a different vibe. what i reach for depends on what im looking for at the time.
my stingray has a raw slap. the slap on my Q6 is very clean, hifi, well defined, respectable and reserved. it doesnt overpower a mix, but is easily heard. the slap on my tune TWB is much more up front and 'in your face' than the modulus, but still has a very modern hifi sound. lately i've been thinking of looking around for something that can deliver a really full and hearty smack to your chest kind of slap.
What's ironic (given it's name) is that I really don't care for the tone of my 'Wick Thumb for slapping. The "slaps" aren't too bad, it's the sound of the "pops" that I just can't seem to like. Whenever I want to slap, I almost always go for my Fender Jazz. I also find the 'Wick a bit awkward for slapping due to the tight string spacing (it's a 5'er). It's awesome for a growly, burpy fingerstyle sound, though.
The best slap sound I've heard usually come from boutique basses like MTD, Roscoe, Modulus, Zon, Pedulla, etc.

I've always kinda liked the fender J for slapping but always thought there was something better out there and bought other wise.
I went to my wifes country gig last night and got dragged onstage to perform my world famous poorly slapped version of Brick House complete with poorly slapped bass solo.
Her regular bass player has a 63 RI that he just loaded with Barts. About half way through the wank I was thinking, man, this bass, it's just all there. Freaking awsome.
You can do different but you can't do better.

There is no such thing as the best bass for slap. There are tones of basses that have great slap tone. 30 years ago Sting Rays and Fender Jazz basses were about the only basses that produced the slap tone we all know and love. These days you can get that tone out of "MOST" basses.
