Best Slap bass?

Stingray 4 or 5. single pickup. There is a reason they are so popular. You cant do much better for what they cost.

Lakie 4-94 makes for a great slap bass . Again it's basically based on the MM or Jazz bass ie MM pickup (coil selective) and Jazz neck pickup !!

For me, ZE slap tone is Marcus Miller with his Fender Marcus Miller sig. bass. However, I would say you're probably looking for a stingray single H.

I'd also recommend a Smith BSR Jazz or at least to try it out if you thought about a Warwick Thumb. I have owned both and well, I still own the Smith.

I am going to suggest one that hasn't been mentioned yet. I just purchased this not too long ago, so I am still getting used to it.
It is a Yamaha Nathan East model. Ebony 24 fret board, active electronics, neck through, JJ pickups, and a special Nathan East preamp installed which when activated creates the most wicked slap tone of any other bass I have heard. It is a very clean sound much like a piano like tone. Yes, it is 5 string and is an INCREDIBLE player. I also like the white pearloid tuning keys.

First off flea did not invent slapping. If anyone did it was Larry Graham. Secondly in answer to your question, I think that the F bass is one of the best in terms of slapping... Especially if you like a vintage tone. If you prefer more of a modern tone then the MTD 535 is the way to go.

What would you say is the best bass for slap? I'm looking for a 5 string bass, that has nice smooth finger style but can be pushed and get growly, but has to be really easy for slapping. I slap tons and slap like flea so my thumb kinda goes all over the place.

I've heard the best basses for this would be, a stingray, and jazz bass or a modulus flea with the lane poor pickup, but I'm open to other ideas, so, what bass would you suggest?

Oh and btw, does anyone know if the second pickup on the new stingrays will get in the way of slapping?
