i have a pair of Ernie Ball regulat slinkys...i forgot what gauge though. They are ok w/ slapping but ive used betters.

D'addario ProSteels are the boys. They are steel rather than nickel so you get a brighter tone plus they last a lot longer than nickel strings.

I tried a few different models from DR then I found Fodera Victor Wootens. They have been the ticket for me.
I like Ernie Ball strings on dang near everything, but I tend to really dig Dean Markley Blue Steels on active EMG PJ basses. They have such a metallic sound can't get much brighter. Unfortunately, they don't last long if you use them a lot.

D'Addario XLs. Haven't tried ProSteels yet but you can bet they'll have plenty of zing. For slap I prefer nickel; it has a little more character to the sound. Stainless has high end all the way to the moon, but I find it to be a very cold sound when slapping (though stainless gives a great fingerstyle sound), and I also find that the bass suffers with stainless; less thump more growl, which may be preferable to some, but I like my thump to sound like a metal kick drum.
As far as gauge, I usually go 45-100, with a 130 B-string for my Yammie. If i went with 45-105s I'd probably get more thump, but the response on these sets sounds more even which is just as important for me because I do more fingerstyle than thumbstyle.

Great slappers, but this guage is NOT for everyone, especially if you don't have, or know how to play with, a light touch.
But they not only slap, they "Beotch Slap" (can I say that?)

For a lesser attack, I use GHS Bass Boomers XL's also 30-50-70-90, also mighty slappers, a little less brite because they're nickle roundwounds.
Be advised that when you do use strings this light, the neck may well need to be adjusted initially- Most mfrs. use 40/45-100 as OEM gauge.so...
