I once saw a trio of early 90's Bubinga bolt-on thumbs, and I still want to add to my collection.

Personally though... I nabbed the best looking of the bunch for myself

Mid to late 90's dolphin pro... wenge, rosewood, barts. I played it at the GC in Dallas when i was a starving musician.... didn't have the 1700$ but, if i did i would have taken it home. I considered taking my chances and walking out with it seriously a magical bass .

90s Streamer and Fortress models are unmatched.

He speaks the truth. The Fortress body shape is among the most ergonomic around. Shame they've retired it to the Rockbass line.

Warwick basses from the 80's up to 1992 are in a class by themselves, especially pre-1989 Thumbs. Impeccable attention to detail (one does notice the smaller production "hand made" quality), very slender bodies (especially in the pre-1987 models), thin necks and great pickup combinations. The other honorable mention is the Infinity. Excellent bass!

I may have to update my answer after all these years, from Thumb to Dolphin, as I have a Dolphin broadneck 5-string from 91 now

The nicest one I ever tried was a '95 Thumb through-neck 5-string (probably the punchiest, growliest bass I've ever played), closely followed by a '94 through-neck Streamer Stage I 4-string (all maple and a total slap machine). They're just not the same now they're fully mass-produced, and I HATE the necks of their bolt-ons.

How are the bolt on necks different from the neck through? I have a Bolt on Trujillo but I have no idea how the German made basses sound. I'd love to try one but there aren't any around. Are all the German made Warwick's big buck$?

Wow... thread necromancy.

Up until recently, Warwick used a very different neck profile for its bolt-ons. The through-neck instruments had quite slim, slick necks, while the bolt-ons had big, thick, chunky necks. Warwick seem to have taken this criticism on board though, and they've been making the bolt-ons with much slimmer necks these past couple of years.

Since this thread was first around, yes, the German Warwicks have actually increased in price even more. With the introduction of the MIK Pro series, they took the opportunity to move the German-made instruments upmarket. A secondhand German-made Corvette can still be had for reasonable (<$1000) money though if you look around.
