Best Wireless Bass rig

the Shure GLXD-16, has zero noise and was dead silent, just not as clear and organic of a tone as the PRA.
that's still hard to believe, without cable simulation the shure should be giving you full bandwidth 20-20k CD-quality sound with no companding, it shouldn't have a "tone" of its own.
the clip on the transmitter is brutal to deal with on the Shure.
agreed, that clip is the same kind as the one on my line 6 relay G75 and is the one thing i hate about it. fiddly to deal with, falls off easily, and forces the pack to point sideways on a strap.

there are lots of pouch options for strap mounting, but i've settled on just running two little velcro cable ties through two slots on my leather strap then slipping the box's clip through those, that way the cable points down towards my bass instead of out to the side.

The Shure unit is a bit harsher sounding the the PRA. The PRA has a great tone. You would have to try both to see what I mean.

I found the best way for me to deal with the clip was to clip it onto my pants pocket. The Shure clip was digging in and wearing into the leather on my strap.

When I spoke to PRA they said they tested it and got no noise on the amps they tried it with. But, they weren't able to test every amp. I run the bass boost and treble boost on my Mesa D800+, and the more treble you have the more subject to hiss you are.
So I would try it see if it works for you.

However, the Shure GLXD-16, has zero noise and was dead silent, just not as clear and organic of a tone as the PRA. I wish I could combine the best features of both.

I know this is an older thread, but I'm curious as to how you were running the 800+... Meaning, were you hearing the noise floor through your speakers, or out the DI in to the FOH/Monitors? I have an 800+, and so far, I am disappointed with the noise in the head itself. The gain staging is very noisy. I just picked up an ELF, and so far so good through my Acoustic Image Coda+, but that's been in my living room. However, that said, when I went in through the input, it was almost equal to using a 15' cable, but when I bypassed the gain stage by going in through the return, the ELF sounded like it had a gain boost on compared to the cable. Something that wasn't apparent going through the input. I'll be trying it with the 800+ in the studio this weekend.

I might not able to describe precisely

Have glxd16 as my first wireless
It built like a tank, auto linked, dB+/- and yea a turner!

But tone is tone .... As a passive tone sucker
The test were ran with 3 amp /4basses/4cables

Amp:
Mesa walkabout 12"
Bergantino Forte + musicman hd210
Sadowsky walkabout + walkabout cab 12"

Bass:
Fodera emperor
Mtd Saratoga
Ac LG
Fender 72 jazz

Jack:
Analysis pro Pro Oval Studio 15feet
Mogami
Rheingold
Kamirari

all basses havehbeen played active and passive
in general speaking I can hear a big difference when it goes wireless Although it is stated the response Freq is 20 to 20k.

Its very obvious that the tone is less clean
and sharp. The texture of the sound changed (thinner?not sure if it's the right word tondescto d)and the punch is reduced. The impression is 20% of mass got disappeared.

Switch to active and boost the bass with onboard preamp slightly bring back the punch but the texture problem was still there.

Assumed it's not the low frequency being cutted because it go low to 20hrz. increasing the dB on pedal receiver didnt help.

Please tell me I am wrong and there is a way to fix it.
Although it won't stop me to use it on stage.

I had the noise floor while running it through the speaker. I did not test to see if there was noise running through the board. However, I tend to run at a 50/50 mix for live gigs where I use subs. So the noise from the speakers would be a non starter for me.

Which wireless (if any) have you settled on now?? I finally used the ELF for a gig, and it started cuttting out when i walked over to my guitarist to rock out... Say, 15 feet at the most. So I emailed then about sending it back, and they were super apologetic and friendly... They are sending me TWO new models in hopes that the one I had was just a fluke. One is the standard, and one is a prototype. They were so hell bent on making sure i was satisfied, that they said keep whichever one you like, or none at all. I tell you what, I really hope it works, cause customer service alone is HUGE with me, never mind the fact that i think their units sounded best. FWIW

ELF? As in the TE amp or something else?

PRA's customer service is very good. My receiver stopped working right after the warranty was up, they replaced both units.
How's the replacement holding up? What's your overall opinion of it's tone and reliability?? Do you have the standard, or the ELF?? I will have an ELF, a standard, and some prototype in my possession sometime this week, and I'm looking for characteristics to watch out for...
Thanks!!

@Rice, the replacement is holding up well. I'm not a gigging bassist though. I jam with friends a lot and go to open mikes. I have an ELF and I don't hear a difference in tone from a cord.
No problems with walking to the far side of a not very crowded bar with it. A side note on that, the sound guy brought up the FOH for me during a break, sounded good.
My only problem with it personally is it only comes with a case for the transmitter, so I bought an extra case, snapped part of the clip off and added Velcro to it.
Good luck with yours, looking forward to your review.

Thank you for the input. I will definitely report back when I get them. :)

Although my Fender Elite is an active bass, I have been running it as passive for some time. Sounds a bit more organic and I don't have to worry about batteries going bad during a set.
Have you ever confirmed that it will still operate passive even with a dead battery? I have a 2011 Am Deluxe P w/active passive switch, but never actually tested it without a good battery on board. Might be good to find out in advance, lol.

passive-switched basses will work without the battery, otherwise they wouldn't really be passive.

the switch typically connects the output of the volume pot straight to the jack, bypassing the preamp section.

The only exception to this is if you have a bass that has active pickups, like any of the EMG series. When you have active pickups mixed with a passive preamp, you will still be dead in the water even with the preamp set to passive.

right, but in that case nobody would call it a passive switch, that wouldn’t be true.

Did you know which one you were using, whether it was the cable or bass?
What measures were put in place to make sure that the sound was the same each time?
What measurement system was used to record the results?
