Better looks

I just hack around with a couple buddies, no gigs. I've had several short scale basses over the last few years (stopped playing for 50). I've put flat wounds on all of them. I played a 1964 Gibson EB0 back in the 60's with the mudbucker pick up. Picked up the Epiphone knock off. Still muddy. Tried a Squire Bass VI. Great looking but 6 strings on a narrow neck make it more difficult to play. Tried a Fender Mustang that came with a Badass Bass II bridge. Loved the sound and the sustain is incredible, but not enamored with the red body with off white pick guard. Picked up a Gretsch G5442B hollow body. Georgeous, but switched from flat wounds to tape and I'm still not happy with the tone. I'm back to the Mustang. Does anyone make a pick guard that might dress this plain jane up? To my knowledge, Fender doesn't make a short scale bass with a little more pizzaz. Any ideas on a short scale that might play/sound as good as the Mustang but hold it's own against the looks of my buddies PRSs?

There are after market companies that do pickguards. Pickguard Planet comes to mind. Honestly I felt the same way about the Yamaha BB235 I bought. Love the black body, but not the white guard. So I had a can of copper Rust Oleum and sprayed it and now it’s awesome looking. I’d post a picture but I only have my phone for internet currently.

Thanks JimmyM. I'll browse Pickguard Planet. Still searching for a handsome short scale too. I've even thought about converting my 6 string Squire Bass VI to a 4 string by changing the nut and the bridge. It's your classic sun burst and really looks nice.
Don’t do that Larry! Let it be what it is. At least that’s my opinion. Take it for what you will.
