Some HiFI speakers were bi-wire/bi-amp compatible. Basically this means the woofer and tweeter sections have separate connections. Links to connect the woofer and tweeter terminals were provided for normal operation.
I believe bi-wiring usually refers to this configuration.

From what I have seen, bi-wire/bi-amp capable HiFi speakers are pretty rare, so this is esoteric stuff. I can't imagine there would be much, if any, benefit from bi-wiring or passive bi-amping, other than bragging rights.
