up in thumb position it does sound like a fretless a bit i guess, but i reckon thats because youre pushing the strings closer to the mag

for the woodiness and growl you need to set it mainly to piezo

im fairly happy with the results!

at the moment my setup is:

FC with a 1nF capacitor in parallel going into the Aux input on the biesele preamp, biesele mag pickup going into the Coil input.

the blended signal then goes into a Boss GT10B then Markbass

i noticed in another thread you have independant EQs on the 2 pickups, which sounds like a good idea

at the moment i have to just EQ the blended signal but theres aspects of either pickup that i would like to modify before they are blended.

there are lots of dual channel EQs around like DBX rack mount equalizers, but they all seem to have 2 separate channels for outputs as well, nothing with a blended single channel outputs.

another reason is id like to remove as much mass off the bass as possible, the magnetic pickup already affects the acoustic tone, id like to remove the preamp off the tailpiece

if theres anything out there thats pretty cheap and small, with 2 graphic EQs and 1 output id love to know!

Sorry for digging up this topic.
But I might be interested in the Biesele pickup.
I also have a Fishman Full Circle and Platinum Pro preamp. I like the Full Circle but I am also experiencing extreme feedback since I also play in louder situations. Also the output of the FC is not very high (volumewise).

1)What are your findings about the Biesele now?
Also in combination with the Full Circle.

2)can the Biesele be used without the additional preamp? or is pickup blending also on that preamp?
In other words is the Biesele preamp a must have or not?

3)Is it absolutely feedback proof?

4)From what I have read this one is considered one of the best magnetic pickups. Is it much better then the Schaller?

5) does the pickup mounting interfere with your bow? I also play a lot of classical

Im afraid I dont use it anymore, since I got a new bass months back and its a 5 stringer.

But when I was using it, my amplified tone was the best Id ever heard. Amazingly focused clear and basically feedback proof. If you want really tight direct bass frequencies its good. You could plug this into a house system no worries

The biesele preamp has a blend knob, but the unit isnt a necessity.

If you want to take your bass to a classical rehearsal afterwards you can just take the pickup off in less than a minute. I found the extra mass on the end of the fingerboard affected the acoustic tone up in thumb position.

As for the schaller, i havent tried it but when Ive heard other players use it, the biesele sounds more hi-fi.

What do mean bij hi-fi compared to the Shaller? with electric basses I don't like the hi-fi sound so much and prefer a warm passive tone.

And did the mounting interfere with your bow/arco playing? for example the string vibrating against the pickup, or the bow touching the pickup? that is what I am afraid of.

Well I just pulled it out of the draw and put it on the 5 stringer and it works fine across all strings. I made a couple of mp3s. The bow clears the pickup just fine, but as youll hear the mag pickup doesnt work too well for arco.

So hearing it for yourself is probably the best way to explain. Reminds me how great a pickup it is. Seems like a good idea to keep it in your gig bag and if you find yourself at a stupidly loud gig, you can put it on in a minute and be heard clearly.

Thanks very much!!! great samples, nice playing also.

The Biesele sounds more electric, but that was to be expected from a magnetic pickup. But I still like the sound.
I also like the fact that it can be detached any time and that you don't have to change anything to your bass to install it.
With the Schaller you have to put some screws in the neck.

These samples are great to make up my mind.
