Big Cabs Club II: The Big Cabs Strike Back!

115's and 410's are NOT BIG CABS


Hey guys I have to go over the rules again just so we are clear. 115 and 410 cabs are great cabs! They are the bread/butter of bass cabs. They are all over the globe. Everyone owns one or the other and if they own both they stack one on top of the other too.

But 115 and 410 are NOT BIG CABS. Please try not to post pictures of your gold-plated/diamond-encrusted 115/410 cabs unless they are inadvertently included in a picture of a BONA-FIDE-BIG-CAB. If you do accidentally post a picture of a non-BIG-CAB, you may be politely asked to remove it, because the past has shown that as more people for the first time see this thread and they see pictures of non-BIG-CABS being displayed unintentionally as BONA-FIDE-BIG-CABS, guess what? We get all kinds of pics posted of non-BIG-CABS and this thread falls into an unending mobius loop and we are never heard from again... :eek:

Update to my current setup (I'm already a member):

2 2x15s powered by the Acoustic 370 with the LMII powering the 4x10. Ignore the pedals, I have many more now.

Pictured here is my rack and my 1820. I have a Peavey 1810 and 1820. Each has one 18" and two 10" speakers. They are essentially the same cabinet, but the 1820 was slightly larger, and it came with an 18 that handled more power.

I've replaced the 18's with Electro Voice 18BX. They are monsters. 400w continuous, 800w program, 1600w peak! But you need the power to push them.

From the top the rack has a Line 6 XDR95 digital wireless, Peterson strobe tuner, power conditioner, Peavey Max Bass tube pre-amp, Rane 30 band EQ (that I don't use), DBX dual 31 band EQ (that I pulled from the PA rack cuz it sounds way better than the Rane), and two Peavey CS 800S power amps.

I run one power amp bridged for the 18's @ 4ohms = 1200w.
The second power amp is run in stereo for the 10's @ 4 ohms = 2x420w.

Who else in here can run 2040 watts on stage?

Oh, BTY...I did a little artwork on the logo.
The logo said "BW Equipped" for "Black Widow". However, since I replaced the Black Widow with an EV I colored out some of the letters with a Sharpie so it now reads "EV Equipped".

Yea, I do love the Peavey gear, but I gotta give EV props on this particular cabinet.

Sweet baby Jesus... My 460 watts total shakes the house if I turn all the volume knobs to 1.5. Turn it to 4 and you can literally hear it 3 blocks away. We've tested it.

Yea, obviously I don't crank it up full power all the time. When we had two guitarists I would lay the cabinets on their side and let the guitarists put their half stacks on top. So, it was more for looks and balancing the sound on both sides of the larger stages than it was for loudness. Of course, it was loud! I just didn't think it was crazy loud. After all, I had to keep up with two 100w Marshalls.

Here is a pic. You can see my cab on its side with an Avatar (Marshall copy) 4x12 on top of it. On the Avatar was a 100w Marshall JVM 410. The other guitarist had the same setup.

Lately we've been playing with one guitar, so I've only been using one cab. This weekend we played an outdoor gig in front of about 1500 to support the Fallen Heroes Ohio memorial. Being outside I wish I had my second cab!

I was recently given this beast by my neighbor. I gladly accepted it hoping it had a nice old Altec or EV in there. The P-bass is for scale, this cab has to be close to 100lbs.

Edit: I'm thinking I am way too much of a sissy to gig with this leviathan, due to this I'm not looking for a #, just wanted to share a pic of this weird old cab.

Bah! :D I've played a 70 person room with my rig. Just because I have 300W and an 810 doesn't mean I use all 300W. I generally have the volume at 10:30 & the EQ fairly flat.
