Big changes in the past year

I really spent the year trying to concentrate more on the tone coming from my strings, my basses (stopped trying to find a one string brand fits all solution, and found the right strings for each instrument) and most importantly, my hands. A lot of that was prompted by the Victor Wooten amp threads throughout the year..... "Victor sounds like Victor no matter what amp he played" thing. Decided I wanted a definitive sound for me, no matter what amp I was playing.

Pulled out my '66 B15N, after having it stored away. ('09 resolution is to get it restored)

The only addition to my rig was a 112. I love making one trip from car to playing location.

I picked up a Firestudio Project and some monitors in the summer that I haven't really delved into yet. Hopefully we'll start using that some this year.

Started doinkin' around on my upright again (mid '30's Framus carved top... beautiful), and hope to start using it a bit more in '09. (might need a EUB to keep the one trip from the car thing in check)

this year my wife and i had our first child, and found out months later that we're having another child (gulp...). my wife finished college and got a good job, i quit my good job and finally am playing music full time, while playing mr. mom during the weekdays. i realized i don't want to haul a big rig around anymore, but i've yet to do anything about it yet. i think my new years resolution involves a LMII and a smaller cab, although i just can't seem to pull the trigger. oh well, i hope everyone has a wonderful 2009!!!

This just barely fits in:

I went from my Yorkville XM200 Combo with 15" extension cab...

to running the cab with my new Hartke LH500 head!

It arrived at about 4:30 yesterday.

Now if only Ashdown would ship my new cab, I could have my rig completely up and running...

All these gear changes are cool, but I'd like to know if these gear changes resulted in any changes in tonal philosophy, or changes in your playing, or any other epiphanies.

Congrats on the grand-baby, that's cool you got to see the delivery. Since you asked the only epiphany I had was that my back doesn't hurt the day after a gig anymore since I downsized my entire rig. Still trying to sound like Dave Hope or Eddie Jackson, depending on my mood. The VT Bass pedal really helps the cause. Thinking about picking up a new passive P-Bass with a maple neck. Miss my old maple neck I sold years ago. Still not sure why I did that...
