Big E Speakers Part 4 - Quadraphenia

Ok, messed much more with it today as I am home alone. It was not at 3.2khz but very near 800hz instead. When I do a healthy cut at a narrow q there I get a much smoother tone, one very much inline to what I normally use. It did not end up scooped (of course that is subjective) and still has plenty of punch and definition.

Received my second 116 today. This one has a tweeter, my 1st doesn't. They pair up nicely. I've tried them both horizontally and vertically and prefer them standing up.
Having the tweeter does fill in the top end nicely.
I'm using a Vanderkley Aurora head and Skjold basses. So far I'm liking what I'm hearing as I adjust to the cabinets.

Has the voicing of the Aurora been changed since the first preamp only version?

I'm looking at 1 or 2 MAS109's and some Bergs as well for different stuff.

I had the Flex out at the Asheville Bass Hang the other night (with the 2di4 and RAD1000 amp), and people were stunned by not only how great the cab sounded ("3 dimensional" was mentioned more than a few times), but also by its overall output and ability to bring the thunder without any loading or "chuffing". Its just effortlessly huge sounding.

Here's a picture of the 2 x 116 . I love the way the fret less bass sounds through the rig. I've got to mention that the combo of H1203 and MAS116 sounds wonderful.

Soooo.... long time, no update.
I had some perceived issues with the MAS109/sub, mostly miscommunication.
Mike has been GREAT to work with the whole time. Everything is very, very satisfactorily resolved.
I've yet to gig with it, but the MAS 109 kicks in rehearsals with the 9 piece soul band, and makes for an easy "1 trip everything shlepp" - bass, amp, stand, cabinet.
And paired as a sub with the Flex Top - man.
Next week we have an outdoor festival gig. I'm sure I'll be in FOH, but I'll bring the whole rig for the sheer awesomeness.

Anyone else running fuzz and OD through their MAS cabs? Lordy, talk about thick and crispy!:bassist:

Ive done a little through my MA109 with Aggie Tonehammer+Agro, and its pretty great with those mids. Looking forward to the final stage* of my Stewart powered pedalboard wherein I install the second Stewart (PA50B) to be run through my g**tar modded 26 in stereo. 3-channel split signal goodness!

* who am I kidding? There is no final stage.

"Guitar modded 26"? Interested to hear more about that.

I wrote about it upthread a good ways. Basicslly I swapped the 6.5s for eminence guitar 6.5s, disconnected the mids and wired for stereo input from the speakons. Seemed a good candidate for a single enclosure wired for stereo due to compact size, crossfired drivers and high vortex efficiency goodness. Though Im no guitar tone expert, it sounds really freaking good. My band's playing the Cal State Fair, and I hope to have this setup ready for the big stage.
