Big E Speakers Part 4 - Quadraphenia

Got over to mikes the other day to check out some speakers and hang. All I have to say is I see a MAS in my near future. Wow! Been looking for a 2x12 to upgrade to a louder single cabinet. Currently use 1 markbass 12 and have a 2nd if I need the extra oomph. 1 MAS 12 will more than sastisfy my oomph cravings. I am amazed at how good the speakers sounded. The flex 4x6 is a sonic revelation. Some seriously impressive work. Can't believe I waited this long to check them out.

Yeah I can't keep buying every new iteration as I have three and will not be adding to the fold, but believe there is THERE there. I will not take some cheesy cab to a gig ever again. YMMV.

I have found that the 66 with the 110 sub not only covers every gig I play from a volume/output perspective, but it also covers a very diverse range of music and tones extremely well. Love that rig! :thumbsup:

I play quite a wide spread of gigs, from small jazz lounge gigs to loud, big stage rock stuff. I've decided the 12 is probably gonna be my loud rig. But now I'm interested in a good, portable small rig I could bring on the train too. I was looking at the markbass 2x8 combo but now am leaning towards MAS for that route as well. Any opinions on the best sounding, easy to carry option for that?

Can't help on the MAS side (yet) but I sometimes try out the 2x8 Markbass combo at my local GC. It is a nice sounding, compact unit. Just not nice enough to warrant the $900 price tag (even discounted!!) If it dispensed coffee too I could see it but...

Hard to beat the Audio Kinesis Hathor 1203. I'd buy that over Markbass (or any other "mass" manufacturer) any day of the week.

I've been using the MAS109 and H1203 - H1203 for small gigs, MAS109 for louder ones, both for larger/louder rooms:

FWIW I paid that much for a Mesa 400 and an Ampeg fridge (not the SVT, a 200+ lb. PR series cab). For that much scratch you better be getting something big (if not big size, big sound). Kinda hard to tote the Mesa around; do what Kesslari said.

Flex 4x6? Is it a Flex cab with four 6's in place of the 10"?

I made a visit to the BigE forum and found a post about a new model that Mike is calling the "MAS1200VOG". Is this the cab that you are referring to?

While I was cruising the forum, I noticed that Mike is selling his Shaw B-150. I have to agree that it is one of the best sounding tube amps devised by the mind of man!

Well I will just say that I hosted a Silly Con Valley GTG and the 46 on top of a 110 sub was the focus of everyone's attention. I was actually surprised since I brought the original MAS48 and topped it with the Fender superbassman 300.Not a single person cared to plug in. That rig can blow any Ampeg 810 classic or whatever out of the water.Players are focusing on small enough to get it done. If bigger outdoor festival is required then let FOH take the day. I hate FOH because I want to be in control of my mix with my drummers. Play on , back to your original program. Sorry for the derail.

That cab must be a BEAST. Considering the output and impact of an MWV cab loaded with one 10" and two 5.5" speakers (the 110 Flex), I can only imagine!
