I liked the Bodai 110 a lot -- beautifully detailed and balanced -- very open sounding with a nice presence and pop (articulation). I think two would be killer with a high powered head, but Mike said that the 112 should be a better match for a moderately powerful tube amp. The Bodai 112 is also supposed to have more "grunt"...

Came across this video of Mike at the Musikmesse in Germany -- I usually don't like "talking head" gear videos, but this one gives one of the better and more succinct summaries of how the whole Virtual Labyrinth/Manipulated Vortex Waveguide thing works -- also a nice peek at a couple of the Bodai cabs:



If you're not familiar with the MAS/Big E cabs or the basic idea behind how they work (or even if you are but struggle to articulate it sometimes), this is a good one to watch.

Yeah, that was good.
One difference I noticed was instead of talking about decorrelating the phase & time information, he says the last part of the cabinet before the ports realigns the phase / time information.
Maybe he wanted to avoid explaning decorrelating or did the design change?
My understanding is our brains actually do the recorrelating somewhat similar to how the brain resolves missing or weak low frequency fundamentals.
Am I misunderstanding or misrepresenting what's happening?

I think you're on the right track -- I remember something of this discussion, but it's been awhile. I noticed that he didn't get into how the MAS cabs seem less prone to the effects of hot/dead spots in rooms, which I think is related to what you're talking about -- and maybe I need to listen to it again -- but he hit on the the two big points of 1) how the rear wave is utilized so that a 1x12 is as loud as a 2x12 and 2) how the driver doesn't become unloaded below a certain frequency (which is why the low end control on these cabs is so good).

Hi Tom,
Hey If you could....there is very little discussion about how this amp sounds with upright bass and if it's complexities are wasted as a purely upright amp. I have MAS speakers and I am deeply into them and I would like to want this amp but I fear it may be overkill for an acoustic bassist. But Mike keeps hitting for me in terms of dialing in what I want to hear,...Just looking for someone to give a little perspective....thanks

I haven't really dug too deep in terms of what the harmonic controls bring to the table, because this rig sounds so darned good set "flat." I will definitely run through all of these functions with both electric and upright as part of the review. :thumbsup:

Very interested to hear your comments on the upright through the 1x12. I've been doubling the MA109 for three years or so and it's been fantastic, but I'm at the headroom limit of the ten on some gigs. I doubt I'll get anywhere near the edge of the 12!

So I've had an MAS 112, the Flex 210, and now I'm running a single MAS 109 with tweet. I'm missing that punch and mid range clarity of the 210, but I love the small form factor of the 109. SO I'm thinking about making the Bodai jump to the 110. I'm trying to get ahold of Mike though. Has anyone been able to reach him this week? Tried messaging and calling.

Edit: Mike just messaged me on here. Haha. Ignore...
