Thanks Mike. Not to derail, I'll post in my thread, but I just went from 12ax7 to 12au7 front end and am in love. It's smoother like the 6sl7 but a bit quicker and puncher.
Cool--and you don't have to buy NOS either!

Same here.Im excited to. Cant wait! And I dont think Duke has anything to worry about the new hathor cabs are incredible , the weight and form factor is something i dont think any one will come close to. For me I was looking at either a pair of his 1203 hathors or a one cab do all so I jumped towards the MAS112
Will it have a smooth/aggressive switch?A few minutes ago I e-mailed Mike the schematic for the MAS112 crossover. I had a hard time pulling myself away from listening to it, and I predict you guys are not going to want to stop playing through it either. Mike has done a magnificent job and I'm honored to have been invited to play a small role. I think this cab is going to dominate its general size/price range. The main difference between me and Mike's other head-to-head competitors is, I already know I'm boned (fortunately Mike has been helping me re-orient to other areas of the maket).
No, but the native voicing is like an aggressive version of smooth. In other words no deliberate peaks, but the general trend of the response curve is a bit on the aggressive side of neutral. This was Mike's idea, and the drivers he selected do it with relatively little overt persuasion on the part of the crossover. I wish my own crossovers came together as elegantly. There's only one actual response-shaping circuit in the whole crossover... ime that almost never happens when the goal is a well-behaved response curve. I think you'll find the native voicing of the cab to be a very useful "starting point" for whatever tone shaping you want to do. For instance my original Thunderchild 112 was arguably too smooth and laid-back - it was hard to coax a real growly tone out of it. That won't be the case here. Will it have a smooth/aggressive switch?
I'm still a bit torn.... what if I made a switchable (via front panel toggle) 12au7/6SL7 front end.... hmmm.... I think I can, I think I can...
I think you can, too, but are the differences between them significant enough to warrant the extra parts and complexity? I don't know -- I'm honestly asking. (And maybe it's not that much more complex -- again, I don't know!) I dig that you're thinking along these lines, though!
12au7 vs. 6SL7 aside, do you, like, fer sure favor the 12au7 over the 12ax7?
Plus Mike says my 48 is louder neeners kesslari. LOL
