Big E Speakers Part 4 - Quadraphenia

I'm pretty sure the internals are a bit different. I can't imagine the gold pins alone would make any difference. Definitely worth a listen - between those and the Tung Sols, I don't see any reason to use NOS.

I posted this over in the Monique thread about my rig of doom....
Here is the 210 Flex being driven how it should with a Monique 700.....
This combo is really so over the top i almost don't know what to say.
Endless headroom, dynamics, warmth, Impact...
It is like playing through George Augspurger Mains at a million dollar studio but live at gig.

Last time I took the 66 out, a keyboard player set a drink on top of the Demeter head I was using. It stayed there for about three seconds. I didn't say anything, but I guess the look I have him communicated enough.

That is a fine-looking sixer. And -- does this make me a geek? -- the third thing I looked for in nomatic's photo, after the bass and the water bottle, was the settings used on Monique. Hmm. Sensitivity pulled out or left in, nomatic? I usually play with mine around 10:30 or 11:00 (and out)!

I'm curious as to how the Sonic Farm DI worked with the 1200 Watt Ice on the gig. Do you feel that the DI is enough to work as a pre?

Mike (and JGR), forgive me if this was already mentioned, but the 1200 W Ice module, is that rating at 2 Ohms or 4? Will it safely go below 4 Ohms or is it restricted to 4 as most class D amps seem to be?

The Water had a cap on it Tough Guy............
As for the settings on Monique, Bass slight cut, Mid slight cut, Treble slight boost, sensitivity at around 4 pm.
I am running the flex in the default position all the time BTW.
As for the Bass...
Pierre Erizias is my favorite luthier on the planet and I still have no idea why this guy doesn't have a two year
wait and prices over 10K.

It's 1200 watts into 4 ohms at 1% THD. Most bass amps rate their top power at over 2%THD. The Icepower1000 is very stable into 2.7 ohms (figure three 8 ohm cabs) but I wouldn't recommend 2 ohms. JGR was slamming it into 2.7 and he said it barely got warm.

Pardon my ignorance, but which amp is the Sixpack?

I don't know of anyone using an MAS cab specifically with a PJB, but I was looking at the manual for the Sixpack and the internal speakers are a relatively high impedance and they recommend the amp down to a 2.5 ohm load which does offer a lot of flexibility. You could use any of my cabs with it, even the 4 ohm ones and they should work just fine. As a matter of fact, couplling the PJB with a 4 ohm cab would take advantage of a boatload of power from their amp.

Yup, it's rated 1000 at 0.01% THD, 1175 at 1.0% into four ohms. It was very stable into 2.7 - I had the fan going and the bottom of the case where the heatsink is mounted barely got warm. There wasn't any additional noise, distortion, or other artifacts I could hear. Into 2 ohms, it would briefly cutout when it hit clipping due to the protection circuitry, but this didn't occur at 2.7
ohms, so I have no problem rating it for 2.7 ohm continuous operation, though I would run the fan.

Thanks for replying Mike - the SixPack is a combo with the PJB M500 amp & six Piranha's all in one unit. I have no worries that it would be an excellent combination.

Man--We had the hardest time deciding between the Sonic Farm and JGR's Box-o-Tone. Bottom line---no clear winner---they were the two best bass pre's that I've heard. (for my taste)Man--I'm so superstitious about stuff when you said you were trying the 12ax7 (?) It just sounded CRAZY good with the 6l7--but I trust you.

Man--I'm so physced to see if you can come up with the integrated amp with tone controls for the Reading show. But no pressure!

Thanks Mike. Not to derail, I'll post in my thread, but I just went from 12ax7 to 12au7 front end and am in love. It's smoother like the 6sl7 but a bit quicker and puncher.
