Very dissimilar stuff here. The vortex cabs take the nominal speaker description to a non comparable place. If I told you the original 4x8 I have is more comparable to an 8x10 for output you and others might cry BS. Hope you can try some MAS cabs locally. Amazing output for speaker configuration. Dynamite in a small package.

Note to mods----not talking quality of sound or performance of my cabs vs. any other cabs---just addressing the question of which ones of my cabs would go similar volume---

All I'll say is the way to address ---in general---the volume of a cab for bass is looking at how much air it can move. This is expressed by the speaker's Vd.--or the quantity of air moved. A higher-power 12" bass speaker is usually around 300 cc's. Most of the better 12" cabs use speakers with this capacity. Typically these drivers would have power ratings of 300 watts. I checked and the Boogie is rated at 600 watts.
When you get into the "super 12's " like Duke's and others the speaker can have a Vd of 496 cc's and a power rating of 450 watts. So---a 212 like Duke's or other "super" 212's would have a 900 watt power rating.

My cabs Vd. and power ratings
MAS46 600 cc's 600 watts
MAS 66 900 cc's 900 watts
MAS112 w/18Sound 900 cc's 800 watts
MAS112 w/Faital 900 cc's 1000 watts
MAS112 LPT 660 cc's 450 watts
MAS 210 Flex 1200 cc's 900 watts

Keep in mind---power ratings given are what it will take to fry the voice coil. Power for a speaker to fart out is lower---for mine or other manufacturers' speakers. A MAS46 will take 600 watt peaks but I'd recommend---lets say---400 watts continuous.

I think I'm within the CUP rules here.

I keep going back to remembering when I was trying to test your cab. The Vd of that crazy thing is near 1600 cc's. Radbass (fellow TB'er) and I were getting the spins and couldn't get it near max volume indoors. I brought it outside (in the middle of Chicago winter) and within 10 minutes the cops showed up. A woman a block away complained that it woke up her baby and her dog was freaking out.

Hah! If that isn't inspiring, I don't know what is.

I keep it throttled back on the power amp and aggressively HPF'd. I lasted less than a minute without the FDeck running in our practice space before getting really dizzy. It keeps sounding better as I turn it up, so I'm thinking I'm probably nowhere near its upper limits and also probably never will get it that loud. Irving Plaza no longer looks to be on the menu for us, but I should get a better idea of how fun it can be at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn on the May 8 and an even better idea at a semi outdoor event on the boardwalk in Seaside. Should at least be interesting.

When we test larger prototypes the police show up to let us know we have had complaints. However, we are located in a manufacturering zone and there isn't anything that they can do. It's nice of them to stop by and report in. That way we can guage the effective range of the test subject. Sometimes the Chief brings his bass.

We try to be good neighbors and test only during daytime but...
