I like to change up my rig all the time,the size of the stage has more to do with it than the crowd.I like to move around a lot so if I can,I might use 4 to 6 cabs,even one for the drummer,but that's just me and that's just my drummers (more than one band).

Just use what your comfortable with.

I always set my SWR Bass Monitor back between my 2 drummers. It does 3 basic things for me... At 8Ohms, it drops my system to 2.6Ohm load and my amp runs at 850 watts.
Secondly, it has a tweeter in it, so it gives a little brightness to my stage sound. Third, it allows less bass in the monitor system (as needed) so I have more control over my overall sound and tone on stage...

Outdoor festival = mayhem. Not much set-up/tear-down time between bands, often long distances between the van and the stage, and usually decent to good PAs and monitor set-ups, plus sound-guys who know what they're doing.

Personally, I'd just go direct (with my Line6 Bass POD xt Live), and bring my Markbass LMII and small Schroeder (1210L) just in case the monitor system isn't up to par. For 2k+ people, the audience is only going to hear the PA, anyway, and your tone and mix is up to the soundman, not you. Your cabs will likely serve as a backup or supplemental monitor for you personally.

I wouldn't bring any more gear than you have to. Definitely plan on sending a signal to the board regardless of which (if any) cabs you use.
