Besides being big and shiny, what does a Bad Ass bridge do to/for a bass that's any different from a regular bridge?

I have a '08 Highway Jazz with a Bad Ass II, and I find the sustain goes on and on and on....is it supposed to help in the tonal department - or what?

Any opinions?
