Biggest string disappointment ever - whats yours?

Any flatwound...Turns out I'm just not a flatwound guy. Horses for courses.

As far as a particular brand, it's good old Rotosound stainless steel rounds. I loved the tone, even though it does die quickly. I didn't mind the rough feel. But the quality control became crap. The last 4 packs I bought had (right out of the plastic) 2 dead strings, 2 dead, 2 dead, and 3 dead. After that, I began searching, and found Daddario Pro Steels and haven't had one complaint. Great tone, not as rough on the fingers, longer lasting, cheaper, and NO DEAD STRINGS.

DR Low Riders AND Hi Beams...they sounded OK, nothing special. Didn't last any longer than any other string, which is a problem because they sure do cost more. I was expecting wow factor because those who like them swear by them. Just not a DR guy I guess...

Aye... I paid an arm and a leg for the Elixirs and truly was disappointed. Granted they have their place in the hierarchy of bass strings but IMHO unless you have a very hot bass you want to tame a bit I´d say try something else first. The feeling sure is slick though so if you´r preference is such that you want your strings slippery that is plus to consider. Personally once was enough. No more.

None! I think I've tried more than 10 different brands and I all loved them for their own characteristics. D'addarios broke very fast once but that never happened again.

EB strings - I couldn't get them off my Sabre fast enough. I hate the flexible feel of them.
DR strings - I can't ever seem to manage to bond with any of these. They sound 'meh to me, and I find them obnoxiously rough to play. That coming from someone who likes Rotos.

I'd say either slinkys or these black nylon things I tried years ago. I can't even remember what brand they were but neither of them gave me a tone that I liked when I played

ghs brite flats. they feel really wierd and I didn't like the tone.

When you play a bass that's targeted to the 60s sound of early rock, blues, Motown and they put zingy Roundwounds on it.

I was new to flats when I first received my fretless, but the Chromes on that sucker just didn't turn me on. I may try again as I have owned my fretless for six years now, but DR has my business at the moment. Really trying for that DB tone.

D'Addario ProSteels and FlexSteels.... These go dead on me after just one gig. Other D'Addario strings did not have this problem as much as these did, for some strange reason.

For me it was EB Slinky 45-100 nickels. Sounded weak when I played alone, completely lost when playing with the band. Used for less than an hour, NEVER AGAIN!!

Daddario in general. I like their guitar strings, but have tried several different bass sets and they wee all pretty lame

D addario Chromes. Too scooped for me and stiff. Never liked the tone I got out of those strings.

Rotosound 66. Very stiff, grippy, and dead sounding. Overly bright, not enough tone.

Currently trying out EB Flatwounds. Starting to like them a little even though they grip on my fingers but they at least have tone!

When I started playing 7 years ago, I was young and naive enough to think strings were just strings. So for about two years I only got Rotosound Roto Bass 45's because they were the cheapest. My opinion of them is that they sound incredibly bland, and have the feel of course sandpaper.
