Bill Bartolini

Sad news. I live in the NCal East Bay town where Bill had his original shop (think they still have offices here, but production moved to San Luis Obispo at some point). Some folks I play with worked for him years ago. I don't think he's been active in the business for several years now.

I've used other pickups but always found myself gravitating back to Barts. His legacy will live on in my instruments and many others.

Very sad to hear this. I've used Bartolini pickups and EQ in the vast majority of my basses over the past 30+ years, starting with my Tobias Classic. It's hard to overstate the impact his products have had.

Just ordered a soapbar pair for my only bass not yet Bartolini equipped.. Barts for ever ! RIP Mr Bartolini.

Barts are great, lots of punchy tone comes out of them,,Have used them since mid 80's on a P bass, then on a PJ..never disappointed with their sound and quality....

RIP. Significant loss for the bass community. Many premium non-Fender basses sported his circuits and pickups. Tobias, Pedulla, Modulus, etc. At one time, I used to refer to that whole group as Bartolini basses.

Big footprints indeed.

Whoa sad. My first bass had an off the shelf Q control and piezo buffer as well as Bart PJ. It's still working. I simplified the controls again

I thought Mrs Bartolini had been running the show for 20 years plus..
I spoke with her many times over the years...quite the character

RIP Bill. You designed great picks ups and pre amps, and gave great service. I had dual coils P bass and a Bart pre put in my BB5000 when the bass hit the market. They tweaked the pick up slightly to make sure they would cover the 5 strings, at no charge. When my pre died, I called to see about a new one, and, with no hassle, they sent out a replacement, free of charge. Kind of like talking with your Mom and Dad..

The very first 5-string and "semi-high end" bass I ever bought was an Ibanez SR1305 back in '92 I think? that I instantly knew I wanted Bartolini pickups in as soon as possible. RIP Bill...

I've used Bartolini pickups in many basses over the years. Always sounded great. He left a lasting tonal legacy. Even before plugging a bass in, if it had Bartolini pickups in it, you knew it was gonna sound good. 85 years, that was a good run.
