They're the stock strings Scott puts on. CM 45 to 130. I'm actually playing them at a gig right now, on a break. They arent buzzing at all through the amp. The bass sounds fantastic! I'm not changing them. I ordered a 135 b string from Curt Mangen. Maybe I'll try it when I have to change the strings.

Hey you all fellow TB'ers!
I'm a long time reader of TB, and this is my first post in a long time!

I REALLY dig this thread and Birdsong basses, for that matter.
I am really inclined to buy a Sadhana or a Hy5, for several reasons, BUT me and my band play DEATH METAL a whole step down! ADGCF!

I wonder how the low E and B strings would behavior when detuning! Will the strings be super floppy? or not?
Are they playable at all, or not worth detuning? :help:

And Im sure this is covered in other places, but do the Birdsongs suit Heavy Metal playing at all? I believe so, what do you think?

I don't think it would be worth tuning down that much. I had a HY5 and had to tune down a half a step because of the band I was in the band and it was ok with heavy flat's but when I was out of the band it was so nice to tune back up that half a step. The bass just played so much better this is also true for a Corto bass. I don't want to ever go back to tuning down that's for sure.

Thanks for the reply, man! I believe you were using 45-105 flatwound strings?
I wonder how playable it would be if it was tuned a whole step down! I was experimenting tuning waaay down on my 34' Warwick Thumb, and it was still ok to play it tuned 2 whole steps down, I guess. Of course it is much better/easier to play with more tension, though. Maybe experimenting with 50-110 would work? Or strings with more tension? Any thoughts?

Once again, as its a common trend here, I think I should e-mail Scott and just ask him what are his thoughts on it, eh?

that's my best guess, the drop n gain model pictured on the Lace website is the only one that looks even close. in fact it's the only black humbucker i see besides the Nitro-Hemi model, which has "Nitro-Hemi" embossed. I do imagine though that Scott wires it up a bit differently than the way Lace originally spec'd it.

To bring this thread back from the dead... I am pondering ordering a Skyrider. Lots of gorgeous ones in this thread, especially #1
Had a custom order from another company fall through, and thought maybe it was a sign that it wasn't going to be the one for me.

I may not be gigging with it, but currently my favorite bass is a 32" scale Aria CSB, it is so effortless to play, and the humbucker in the sweet spot really gets the perfect tone. Have a varitone wired up in another bass and love the passive tonal flexibility.

So I'm thinking of getting a skyrider in walnut ebony and maple, 2 humbuckers volume-blend-varitone, black hardware.

Gonna sleep on it for a few days to make sure I'm 100% sure before I give them a call, I want this bass to be epic :D

I don't believe Scott offers blend - just two volume. Unless something has changed drastically over the years. Ask him when you call.

Go ahead and call them even if you aren't ready - sometimes the conversation can help options crystallize.
