'zactly. I thought I wanted something solid, but now I would not give it up for anything! I had never even SEEN sycamore... it has a deep almost holographic look to the grain...

I've never seen sycamore in an instrument either; only in furniture. I'm guessing that it has tonal qualities similar to maple?

Idunno... I have not played an extremely large number of basses... All I know is: This one sound AWE (wait for it...) SOME.

Does anyone know what model/brand of pickups Scott uses for the Fusion?

I'm going for a two pickup Fusion, like this one...same pickup spacing/placement

Are these pickups like the Musicman humbuckers? Same width, length and depth?

No, they are not Musicman sized/shaped. In fact, I believe they're pickups normally sold for guitars rather than basses (he tried a lot of stuff looking for the tone he wanted.

I'm not exactly sure what "size" they would match with - they're the same size as the bridge humbuckers, which used to be EMG HZ humbuckers and are now lower-output Lace humbuckers. If I remember, he's using DiMarzio's. I have the Fusion prototype and it has the Lace humbucker, but I know he used something different in everything after mine.

It's a Dimarzio. I dont know the model. I couldn't find the exact one online. He plays with how it's wired to get the sound he wants.

True! If I remember, it's naturally a touch hot, so he wires it to get the right tone without overpowering the "mudbucker position."

Hello all. I'm brand new on here and I have a Birdsong Hy5 that Scott built for me last year. Its the VERY instrument he has featured on the Birdsong homepage for the Hy5 section (although he made me a darker pick guard after he shipped it so I have the one pictured and the new one on it now) It's GORGEOUS however I bought it for a touring project that never happened so it's only been played a couple times and has been stored in my recording studio. I'm going to upgrade my membership on here so I can post it for sale. But I thought I'd give you real Birdsong enthusiasts the heads up to look for my post. Thanks

Well, I said I would update you guys when Scott posted some pics so here they are. I saved for like two years to get this crazy thing and after seeing these pics all i gotta say is that Cocobolo and Quilted Maple are no joke.

Hey guys got a new pick of my bass still in the "pile of wood stage" lol and thought I would take the opportunity to give, to anyone interested, a few more details on my bass. First off its gonna be a fretted Sadhana with a scroll, if anyone has a sadhana with a scroll I'd love to see that. The body will be a cocobolo and bloodwood double top on spanish cedar and it will have a quilted maple center with ebony and bloodwood stringers. Some other fancy touches will be the bloodwood fingerboard, turquoise inlay side dots and on the fretboard face at the 12th fret, quilted maple headstock with bloodwood underneath and some extra wood burning, a piece of cocobolo laminated onto a yet to be determined piece of wood for the control plate, and finally a piece of flamed brazilwood given to me by my father, who used to work in a violin bow shop, for the arrowhead truss rod cover. It should be quit a bass when its completed.

yes, I noticed that myself... have no answer for you. I guess they are now offering the reverse p as a pickup option on their cortobass?
