I wouldn't worry about any of the things you asked, your bass will be great and fit in any band setting. I had to get rid of my birdsong because my arthritis was making even the 31" scale a challenge, but the birdsong fit in any mix really well. I was sad that it had to go, although I'm having a blast playing my 23" scale basses.

Any Birdsong owners out there have a maple fretboard? I just ordered a CBass in Cypress with a maple neck and board (going for that vintage blonde/butterscotch look!) and I was just curious how yours have changed over time with play wear.
My maple necks have that nice well played vintage look to them now, I assume the fretboard would be the same,but just wondering what your experiences have been.

I have a CBass dated 12/10/10 (hey it's birthday is coming up lol) that I bought used back in 2/11 I really haven't noticed the fingerboard changing over time and I do love the maple fingerboard. The first time I saw it I was blown away with how gorgeous it looked with that maple fb.
I've not been playing it much this past year or so as I got a Birdsong double Fusion and it goes deeper than the CBass. I'm thinking about replacing the pickup in my with maybe an Aguilar AG 4P-60. jmceachern36 used the Aguilar pickup in a CBass and said it made a huge difference.

It's interesting that the maple doesn't darken or yellow as much as I would have thought. One of the things that is darkening when we see an old fender bass must be the finish.
Here's a pic from June 2011. Note I had Black Beauties strings on it so that contrasts a bit against the maple. I do think maybe it's darken a bit.
Here's the pickup you need for the cbass. M&V Atlas pickup. Big sound, nice output.
Thanks Joe, I'll check it out. You like that better than the Aguilar pu ? I do like the tone of the stock pickup but I wouldn't mind a deeper tone to it.

I like it much better than the Aguilar. Definitely deeper sounding. That's actually a bass made by Brady Muckelroy.
Scott mentioned something when I was on the phone with him about the recent CBass video he put up on Youtube, and said that he used an old Fender P Bass to dial in the tone on the CBass. I don't know if the pickup has changed (he said he uses a Dimarzio Split P) but he did make a comment over the phone about how the CBass disappeared from the menu for awhile and that he was really able to dial it in once he got that Fender. I wonder if a new CBass sounds any different from an older one?

In the video he dials back the volume to get the fender tone. I wished I'd have thought of that when I had my cbass. When I had a cbass my amp was constantly clipping because the output was so high. And I always sounded like the guy from rage against the machine. That's why I changed the pickup.
I have the Corto 4 with a maple fingerboard (the prototype). The fingerboard is starting to get a bit dirty, but in a good way. I'm thinking the nickel TI's are contributing to that.
I just love the videos Scott does, such passion about his work.
I'm a short scale guy too and I hope to have a short scale Birdsong in the future.

The Shortbass is a way to get into the Birdsong family for about $1000. The fretless in this video is the very one Scott built for me:
It's a Double Fusion I want, and a Hy5, and even a Hy6 if he'll still make them
Don't discount the original Cortobass, with the single in the neck, it really is an amazing instrument.
I've had (and still have) a lot of different Birdsongs, they're all I've played since 2009...but I still LOVE the "original".
