I had been eyeing that body blank in inventory for about a year. Kept thinking, "I need a bass named "Warpaint". Was almost going to pull the trigger during the sale weekend, and then I saw this. My loss, c'est la vie. Congratulations to you.

US$ 2500 is pretty dear. I'm considering making them a low-ball offer just to get it out of their store, but I would be more comfortable sending that much cheddar right to Scott instead. I wonder if he monitors this forum?
I was thinking it was a tad pricey myself, but it has upgrades - engraving, turquoise...probably close to the new price. If you need a Corto, gotta have it now, and it's just killing you (oh, I'm no stranger to that feeling - after playing it I'm more of a mess over Birdsong basses then ever) - it could easily be worth it. In fact, before I even got it in my grubby paws, I asked if I dropped it from say, 1/16-in onto some carpet, would they write 'Customer dropped. MUST PURCHASE' on the receipt. I felt this would go a long way with the wife. The interesting response was 'Hell! I'll write that and you don't even have to drop it'. GC rose in my estimation right then and there. Just sharing that in case anyone can use it to their advantage.
EDIT: I found out that is silver engraving on this base.

OK guys - less than 4 days after I played that Birdsong at GC, I was compelled to order one up!
It will be similar to Corto bass #283 on youtube, but different. I am unusually stoked today! Totally jacked!

Congratulations! I picked up my first Birdsong Short Bass about a year and a half ago and didn't want to put it down, now working on my first custom build with Scott and my third Birdsong, they are addictive.
Yup, I'm loving my first Birdsong (an Especial II) I picked up in July and have a custom 6-string guitar on order from Scott to go with my bass. Scott is a great guy.
Scott is inspirational, that's the best word I can come up with for him, he's the real deal.
Congrats on the order, now ask for a number, settle in and wait....
My S/N is 18C-379. I'm waiting, but it is all good. I know it will be right when finished. IMHO that's worth waiting for. Pics upon arrival!
I'm talking with Scott about a bass specifically geared towards slapping, something with a nice bright percussive tone. He seems to really like the Kent Armstrong soapbar. He suggested a single soapbar in between the two pickups of the Corto2, a little closer to the strings, and that he can EQ it a certain way to get the tone, use certain woods, and certain pots, etc...

It will probably happen lol. I feel like I have a good grasp on the technique for slapping and I really want to add it to my ability, but my current basses don't have the right set up and space for it.
I haven't talked to him enough to get to the price, but if it's closer to the discounted C1 he offers then it would hard to pass on.
Just hung up with Scott after a 2 hour and 6 minute phone call (a new record!)
I have been itching for something built specifically for slap tones for so long, think two pickups both on and providing that nice bright, percussive, high fidelity tone. After going through all the options we settled on a pretty simple Corto 2 build, but with the pickups moved back about one pickups length toward the bridge. We are going to use the soapbars in the SD Curlee's (the cream ones) and the bass will be a walnut body and headstock, maple neck and board, and gold hardware. Scott is going to do a few of the things he can do to push the tone even more into the brighter, snappier direction (different volume pot, roundwound strings, adjustments to the pickup location and wiring, etc...).
We are calling this the "Funky Chicken Bass" because Scott said once you plug it in your head will be doing the funky chicken all night long!
So 2018 for me will bring a Hy5.2 in Spanish Cedar with a matching headstock and rosewood board, and now the modified Corto 2! I can't wait!!!

Oh I would be extremely interested in this aswell, my only concern would be the string spacing, I believe the website mentions birdsong a to have a 17.5mm spacing which may be a bit tight for comfortable slapping.
I'm use to it at this point, though I remember it felt really narrow when I first played a Birdsong.
I actually slap on my CBass for practice, but it is not ideal in terms of tone or spacing between the pickup and the neck. I discussed these things with Scott and we came to the modified Corto2 build with the pickups moved back a little towards the bridge.
Not mine...but a nice price on a somewhat unique Corto...

That's a handsome bass. I love the turquoise fills. My next buy needs to be a C-bass, though.
I've been watching a lot of videos on the Delano pickup. Man, what a killer tone that thing has.
Really debating between the Delano and the soapbars for my slap bass build. I have played both in Birdsongs and LOVED the Delano. Two very different sounding pickups...a tough decision!

I have that problem, I love the sound of almost any bass, particularly Birdsongs - especially the one I ordered (and that too, was a hard choice). After careful consideration, the only reasonable solution I have is more Birdsongs.
BTW: I grossly overestimated my abilities to wait. It has only been a month since placing my order and I'm leaving claw marks on the walls...the neighbors are disturbed by my shrieks. When salesmen call, instead of just playing my bass for them, I now carefully explain my plight and ask how they would manage it.
