Birdsong Club Pt 2

I have that problem, I love the sound of almost any bass, particularly Birdsongs - especially the one I ordered (and that too, was a hard choice). After careful consideration, the only reasonable solution I have is more Birdsongs.

BTW: I grossly overestimated my abilities to wait. It has only been a month since placing my order and I'm leaving claw marks on the walls...the neighbors are disturbed by my shrieks. When salesmen call, instead of just playing my bass for them, I now carefully explain my plight and ask how they would manage it.

Yeah I'm not sure what to do about my build. Slap has always been a bit of a fantasy, but I don't know if I would use it a ton if at all. I do like the idea of the two soapbars being more of a J bass to my CBass though.

The Delano is real nice too, and either one would give me that nice modern, more high fidelity tone to counter the warmth of the CBass.

These are very difficult decisions!

Yeah the build I have right now is basically the SD Curlee electronics in a Birdsong body. Scott said the SD Curlee soapbars were made based off of the specs from the Kent Armstrong soapbars he uses in Birdsong, he just couldn't get the KA's in cream.

Anyone hear own multiple Birdsong's of the same model? Like two Hy5's or two Cbasses? If so, I'm curious how you switch up the builds to make them stand out a bit.

I'm debating switching my build to another Cbass, but with a rosewood board and different strings.

Sounds interesting! What made you want to go with PB body design?

I just switched one of my builds to a fretless fusion model. 2018 will bring a Hy5 and the fretless. Good times!

Nice. You're going to love the SOUND of the CBass pickup. Volume and tone at full blast and it has a little attitude, more 70's and 80's P Bass. Roll the tone back and it's classic Soul/Motown.

The CBass is by far my favorite model, and it has been very well received by both band members and live sound members. Great bass for cutting through the mix.

In Scott's photos of past builds there is a Left-handed Embrace strung right handed. I am waiting for that one to show up for sale somewhere. (or any other left handed Embrace for that matter.)

It arrived with the Lace Sensor pickup set flush with the fretboard - is that the normal setting? I backed it down a bit and it seemed the sound became much more "zingy" with the D'Addario Chrome flats it came with - not what I wanted LOL. I hope they age quickly - anybody actually like those strings?

I love the chromes and use them on my fretless basses. I just took a set off of "Richard the Test Bass" (which has the same pickup config as the Shortbass) and switched over to standard nickel rounds. That pickup place is about right for a starting setup - but that's why it's adjustable.

Chromes start very bright for flats and break in gradually. I like the zing so I swap them out every 7-12 months.

Gotta say that "V" neck is going to take some getting used to - what's been youse guys's experience with adapting from a "C" neck?

BTW I tune DGCF (we don't need no stinkin' "B" strings ) and Scott was kind enough to do the setup in that tuning . Action is incredibly low - does anyone know if they use a Plek machine or ?

No PLEK machines in Scott's world...he is old school all the way. His setups are always great, and fretwork beautiful as well....

Have you tried LaBella flats in that tuning? The 760FMs come in short scale and I'm guessing that they'd work better than the Chromes do when tuned a full step down. I use 760FSs on my fretless Shortbass, in standard tuning, and I really like them.
