Birdsong Club Pt 2

Yeah, for me the main thing is I'm very unlikely to play a bass over my Cbass. I've tried a handful of other Birdsongs and I always come back to the Cbass, which leaves me with an approximately $2k bass that I don't tend to use.

On the other hand, I really think it's worth having a reliable back up at gigs in case something were to happen (broken string for example). The shortbass would be perfect for this. I also love playing fretless, though I'm not very good at it and don't have a real gigging use for it. Again, the shortbass would be perfect to fill this little niche in my life.

I've posted this before, but here's a comparison of fretted vs. fretless Shortbasses. The fretless Scott is demoing here is the very one he built for me:

I've watched that video a few times recently lol.

I'm also pretty confident I could develop a solid slap technique if I just sat down and workshopped it for like a month. I'm not that bad at it, but I don't tend to practice it so I need to tighten up the chops a bit. Unfortunately I don't think Birdsong's are really built for that style of play. Perhaps if I did a single pickup Cortobass with just the bridge humbucker? Maybe a Corto4 but I'm not sure that's the tone I'm looking for. I think I would need to go full active bass (maybe a Muck?).

Tough decisions...

Sweet! I love my HY5s.....hard to even play anything else at this point.

I have Artist #13 coming in 2020, which will be a 5 string "rainbow" (30ish piece glue up) Sadhana with a scroll and "crazy wood everywhere" as Scott puts it. I can't wait!

Anybody have clips of them playing a Cbass with the original Dimarzio split-p pickup? I've listened to Scott's demo video a bunch, but I'm still trying to get my brain around what this thing will be like.

It's coming up on "my turn in the queue."

I have the c bass with the dimarzio dp127 strung with La Bella flats. I have a crappy demo comparing it to the fender JMJ. I needed to turn the volume down on the bass a bit as it tends to be a bit hotter than the JMJ mustang so it didn’t compare as favorably on this demo as it might have otherwise, also both basses have TI flats in this demo which didn't work as well on the Cbass imo.

Scott's back to it according to his Facebook posts.

I have a five string coming at some point this year. Going for an alder body, matching headstock, maple neck, and rosewood board.

It will look like this one from the website:

I'm excited for it! I have a Cypress cbass and a blackwashed walnut fretless fusion so the alder should fit nicely in between them color wise.
