Birdsong Club Pt 2

To the Birdsong bass player community, I have a chance to purchase either a CBass with alder body and maple fretboard or a Corto 4 with walnut body and maple fretboard. The CBass is in great condition and was built in 2009 while the Corto 4 is in like new condition and was built in 2017.

Considering the following which would be a better choice for someone who just plays contemporary Christian music and just wants one bass:

1) Birdsong build quality in 2009 compared to the build quality in 2017
2) The "P" pickup in the CBass compared to Delano Extender in the Corto 4

So if you were to pick one and be "one and done" which one would it be and why?

I appreciate any responses as I am new to bass and want to do it right the first time.

The P Bass sounds like a no-brainer for that use...and there is versatility in tone with the Dimarzio P/U.

My big question would be about the build year. I'd call Scott and ask him what he put in that bass and how it compares to what he's building now.

Beautiful! I sure like Scott's work.

I once had a '39 Deluxe Coupe with a 265 Chevy V8 and 3 deuces. It wasn't as shiny as this one, probably a "Rat Rod" by today's standards. The '39 was always my favorite of the Ford Deluxes.

Amazing!

That is one of the nicer ones I've seen. I love the light wood/headstock paired with the rosewood fretboard.

I went with a maple board on mine, and a lighter body with black hardware. The idea was to tip a hat towards the earliest fender p basses with the blonde and black look.

Any guitar players here?

I have a D'aguila guitar that was made by Jake (former Birdsong employee) that is just too much guitar for me. I rarely play it and have thought about putting it up for sale.

It is as reliable as a Birdsong, just an electric guitar. Definitely around $2500 when I got it new, and I would let it go for closer to half that if someone here was interested. I'll post some pictures when I am home later in case anyone is interested.

I'm actually thinking about seeing if Scott would build me a Birdsong model guitar for 2020 depending on what it would run me. I'm thinking it would be a better fit for me than the super high end guitars Jake was building.

I will. They are fantastic, but a little more than I need. Mine also has a raised bridge and it is a little tough for me. I much prefer a fixed bridge attached to the body like the Birdsong basses. Small detail but it always gets me. I suppose if I was a more accomplished guitar player it wouldn't matter

I just received my new fretted short bass to go with the fretless one I got back in August. The fretted has a walnut body with a maple board. The fretless is a mahogany body with a rosewood board. Both are excellent players. I really like the 31” scale and 17mil string spacing. Scott’s necks are a perfect fit for my hand size.
I would like to get a number and join the club.

Beautiful shortbasses (shortbi?)

I'm tempted to get in line for one as a backup to my C Bass, though for a little more I could get a SD Curlee.

I kind of want something I can slap on, more of a bridge pickup tone. I've thought about former Birdsong employee Brady Muckelroy and also the new short scales from Music Man and G&L

I have a deposit with Scott for next year so I can be sure I'm in line for a build. Still trying to decide which direction to go.

I'm thinking about matching shortbasses, one fretted and one fretless. Seeing the post above gave me the idea. I tend to play my Cbass 99% of the time anyways so a shortbass as a backup would be really nice.

Beautiful.

The Cbass is phenomenal. Volume and tone full blast it has some bite to it and will cut right through a band mix. Roll the tone back a bit and you can channel that classic fender p sound.

I've been waiting on my "Fusion/Cbass" since March - I'm almost up to bat for "finalizing the details." (hopeful for Spring delivery)

The last couple of posts aren't helping my patience.

I'm thinking about matching shortbasses, one fretted and one fretless.

That's the way I went. Mine are both walnut bodied with rosewood boards, but with different pickguards. I'm really happy with them, especially when switching from one to the other.
