Scott told me its fine to use regular scale strings.
I bought my second Birdsong, but I am not crazy about the Lace pickup. Plus, I love my fretless Cortobass so much its all I ever play now.
I don't know if I got a member number and not really sure if it makes an impact on my life right now.

Great thanks. On a related note, I realize how much I dislike chromes now that I have my favorite strings back lol
Hi there, so I have been thinking about changing the chromes on my Cortobass.
Can you tell me about them a bit? I would like something brighter.
But, at 50-100$ for a set of strings, its not something I can experiment with.
I find right now, the sound is pretty good, but I would like more growl and definition from the bridge pup. Also, the tone control barely makes a difference which I attribute to the strings.

There are a lot of threads on the Dunlop flats, including a mega thread, but I like them a lot. I don't usually use chromes and I think the ones that came with the bass were original to it. So the Dunlop are brighter at the moment, but I don't think they deaden up like chromes do, from what I've read. They're smoother to the touch and lower tension.
Are you in the states? I only paid $33 for these.

Both mine have the lower access cut by my request. Useful and I like the look more.

The short scales won't fit. The wrap was extending onto the fretboard when I tried them. Get the medium scale, or if you can't find those, as we're discussing, the long scale works.

Dunlop flats will wind like that onto most tuning pegs just fine. TIs will, too IME.
On 34" scale I've never had them wind like that. Well maybe the E slightly, but not as much. Just wanted to make sure it was OK.
The Shortbasses have top loading bridges, and the standard 34" scale D'Addario Chromes they come with wrap even more turns on the tuners. Works fine, but I wouldn't try that with LaBellas myself.
Yeah Labella are considerably more stiff right? It's been years since I've played them.
Yes. The wrapping doesn't take bends like that very well at all.
TIs are nice strings, too. Their "short scale" is really about the same length of most others' mediums. Those would probably fit your bass as well.
Yeah I did a TI VS Dunlop comparison a few years back. I found I prefer the Dunlop.
I have a mesquite C-bass (although with a Fusion body shape and no bore holes) in-progress. Thanks to your pics, I'm even more anxious for it to arrive.
