Birdsong Club Pt 2

What fretboard wood do you have on your bass(es)?

Doesn't look like you can make a poll in topic, but I'm curious.

My main CBass has a maple neck. Went for that early Pbass look with the blonde body, maple board and black hardware. Fretless fusion has rosewood, and the upcoming C5 will be rosewood as well.

What about you?

Well, using long scale Dunlop flats didn't last long. My E just broke at the tuner. The windings separated.

I just ordered a medium scale set I found. Not happy right now...

I had a fretless Corto2 and sold it because I find it easier to intonate with standard scale, but I never forgot how thunderous that Kent Armstrong pickup sounded, and since then I have wanted a fretted Birdsong. I really didn't want to buy any basses right now (and at any rate was holding out for a Sparrow), but when I saw this I knew I had to have it. I wouldn't be surprised if someone on here owned it first.

The Kent Armstrong sounds just as amazing as I remembered. I only wish there were two of them!
Can't get over the comfort of the neck--I just can't put this bass down. I love my other shorty fiver, an active Atelier ZP05, but I think I'm going to stick with the dark, passive tones of the Birdsong.

PS: How many Talkbass stories begin with "I really didn't want to buy a bass right now, but ..."

I had a two pickup five string from Birdsong that I ended up not playing a bunch, so I put it up for sale thinking I would get another four string.

It ended up selling for about what I paid for it (thankfully) but I immediately regretted it and realized that I wasn't going to want a second four string since I love playing my CBass, so another five was put back on order.

They are very fun to play and I have been thinking of a bunch of different ways I can use that fifth string to my advantage.

SO much fun. The B requires a lighter touch than a standard scale fiver but not by much, and every semitone is super clear. For some reason it feels like playing a four, where with my previous fivers I always felt that extra width. Love this thing. As for the second pickup, I tend not to fiddle too much with instrument controls once I get a tone I like, although it would be cool to experiment.

Hey dudes! Out of curiosity, does anyone know where this beautiful Birdsong bass ended up?
SOLD - Birdsong "Eclipse" HY5 / Spanish Cedar & Macassar Ebony
It's kind of my white whale at this point and something I'd consider purchasing given the capital. Through some searching on the board, it seems JayDA owned it at one point after many others had already had it. I'm hoping that I, too, can be one of its owners some day :laugh:

I know where it is , out of respect for the owner, I won't mention who it is. One thing I will say, I SERIOUSLY DOUBT it's going anywhere anytime soon....he loves it. I only sold it in a momment of weakness, I love my HY5s, my favorite basses ever.
