Hey another Mustang-to-cherry-Cortobass convert! Sure, I had a Bongo in between, but that was just a brief detour. Congrats!

I asked for it to be all cherry and maple (no rosewood), and he's going to see if he can do the fretboard in cherry too. Gold HW, but with the knobs in ebony with cherry tops. Flame maple for the headstock. I'm thinking of drawing some kind of personal logo to put where he puts the feather. It's going to be a really cool, two-tone effect. Cherry is my favorite wood, and I liked the idea of the body being darker than the control plate and accent stripes. He said he'll put the body out in the sun for a couple of weeks to get the cherry to darken nicely.

Nah, that sounds sweet! AS one Corto owner to another: You are gonna love it! (Mine the "Walnut & Ebony (front & rear)" in the little row of thumbnails above the cherry/maple pic.)
In June, I will have had mine a year. It'll cure yer GAS!

Wow. Nice one Deb!... Looking at Scott's site NEVER ceases to amaze me... I swear, since I got my Corto (8c117, for those of you scoring at home), I get no GAS pains whatsoever when I walk into a shop. But when I pull up Scott's site, I start to wonder about what my next Birdsong might be...

I'm thinking of switching to black HW instead of gold. My bass teacher thinks gold HW doesn't stand up over time... Who am I to argue?

Just curious can Birdsong's be considered medium scale basses ? From I've read the actual scale length on Birdsong's is 31.5". 32" scale is considered medium scale. Does that 1/2" in scale length make much of a difference ?

This is from Scott's manual:

A WORD ABOUT HARDWARE - Black hardware is more prone to scratching during your restringing & adjustments over time than chrome or gold plating. This is the nature of an "anodized" finish. Extra care should be taken (it is in here during assembly) when you restring or work on your instrument. And yes, the gold hardware is actually "gold plated" - there is a 3 micron coating of very high quality gold on the surfaces.

I've seen it mentioned a number of times that the scale is 31.5. I just shot an email to Scott to confirm.

I thought I saw 31.5 at some point and spread that information for a while...sorry.

I measured the nut to 12th fret and it's 15.5" - that makes 31"

Ah found it ! Scott posted here a few times back in 2004 until a mod made a very insulting post about Birdsong basses. Anyway in a post Scott listed the scale as 31-1/2".

Well I was wrong. I've seen 31.5 listed a number of times so I emailed Scott and this is his response:

Hi Tony! 31" is our scale length. It was going to be 31.5 but became 31. There are no 31.5" scale Birdsong basses out there.

Been away for a while. Thanks to those passing on good wishes! Had a PET scan on 4/3 an got the all clear. Now I just need to finish healing up. The fact that Scott mentioned me in some of the recent updates meant a lot.

The bass shipped yesterday and is now in Ft. Worth. I have a band practice on Thursday, which is when the bass arrives. Can't wait for their feedback.
