I had one of those! That was my one, mostly disastrous, year of MI sales and I got matching white P and J basses that year, as part of a rewards program for selling Fender. Sold the P almost immediately (I was young and poor) and kept the J for about a decade.

As for a birth year bass for me...meh. I was born in 1978. Despite the received wisdom that old things are always better, I'd take most basses made today over most basses made then.

do you guys have or want a bass that was made the same year you were born? if so what model/ brand? i would want a white 2003 mim p bass

That would have to be a '51 P bass, or a double bass of some kind. I would like to have one for it's value and historical significance but certainly would not spend the money on one now!

I had this 1976 "birth year" Precision. Bought it for less than a used MIM Standard and traded it for a really nice Gibson AJ acoustic and have zero regrets. Bass was ridiculously clean, hardly any fret wear, sounded great, played great but weighed 10lbs and I have other Precisions that weigh much less that sound as good or better. Only thing I do miss is the cool headstock logo because it had the larger logo that Fender used in the 70, not the smaller font that they switched to in the later 70's.

I LOVE that size of Fender logo font from that era and wonder why they stopped using it.

Luckily, there are some really good reproduction decals out there. One of those will soon be gracing the headstock of my DIY/KIT P-bass!
