Here's mine - 1975 Fender jazz. Maple on maple. One of the last 4 bolt necks made.....

She needed the neck to be refinished to bring the blocks back to life (long story) but here she is:

I'd sure love a 1959 Precision. The problem is, if you can find one, they cost about $15,000.

I faced the same dilemma. So I just settled on one that "looked" like a 59.... With a few hot rod bits added in.

No interest in a birth year bass. If I had a special bass because of the looks, maybe a bass I remember from when I first got into music.

I was close:
Had a sunburst/tort/rosewood 1972 Precision--bought it for $550 in the mid-90s and sold it for ~$700 in the late '90s.

At a 25% profit, I thought I'd done well!

Then just this weekend, I saw a bass just like it at Guitar Center; they were asking $3200...

Verdict: I can't afford my birth-year (1971) bass...

I'd like to find a 1980 Mustang or Musicmaster, but money-wise I think I'd be better off finding an Aria Pro-II csb-380 (though I normally only see '81-'83 for these).

I don't have a birth year bass but my wife bought me a '69 Fender Precision a while back and that happens to be a birth year bass for her. That's more than enough sentimental value for me

It's a great bass too and my #1.

I've tried a few that are about as old as me. If I'm gonna spend $15K on a bass, I'd rather it be something playable, and so far, everying I've seen from that era has been an abused pile of crap in terms of uselfulness to me. 2 Foderas would be much more useful to me. Or 3 Sadowkys, or 4 Laklands, or....
