BjFe Blackberry OD

It's good but not $450 good.

Agreed. The asking price (plus $15 shipping) is reflective of reputation and rarity, not of demonstrable objective superiority to the alternatives.

There is no accounting for taste or desire, however. So anyone has that kind of cash and focus, more power to them. Don't worry: I've done it plenty.

I am more than happy with my Futura but i can’t help being very very interested in the Blackberry as well. The body knob focuses on the 200-350 Hz spectrum. It’s the circuit the One Control version is based on but this one hasn’t been released yet. I wish there were soundclips.

It looks like they lowered the price from 450 a couple days ago. Anyhow - by summer, hopefully we'll all have a pretty good idea how these sound.

I am seriously contemplating getting one. But i know i shouldn’t because of no gigs due to the virus. And i’m more than happy with the Futura. But i do have the money. But i shouldn’t.. But i’m so curious! Aaahhh

I get it - I almost pulled the trigger at $450 - I have the blueberry and love it - This one is driving me crazy. I just bought the Hamstead Subspace from a guy here. And I have the JohnK Bearclaw coming soon. So, I'll give those to a go and see where I stand. Finding the perfect OD will never end.

Ok so i got the Blackberry in today. I've spent about two hours with it, both DI and through an amp. It's once again a GREAT sounding BJFE design. Bjorn Juhl never ceases to amaze me. The mid control is subtle, yet very useful. I was sceptical at first on a knob controlling 200-350hZ since these freqs can also bring a lot of muddiness to a sound. But it's tuned great, to my ears it's boost only, so 'flat' would be full CCW. Turning it CW gives more heft to the sound, think kick-in-the-chest. Again, it never turns into mud. I also did an extensive side by side comparison with the Futura and though subtle, there are definitely some differences. Both the treble knob on the Futura and the mid/body knob on the Blackberry wil make the bass cut through a mix better, but in different frequencies. Between the two, it's a toss up which one i like better. They are both really great sounding, and the differences are very minimal. I would even say these two pedals are about 90, maybe even 95% the same. To my ears they are both quite an improvement over the standard BJFE (which is already an amazing pedal!). I was actually hoping i would like one over the other, so i could sell one and keep the other but i think i might end up keeping both! If the upcoming One Control Blackberry is like this one, this is probably going to be a total game changer.

Dusting the thread off a little. Has anyone had any experience with one control version yet? I'm really keen to pull the trigger on one but can't find any samples.

Mainly I want to see if it's not too dark sounding (my main worry for bjfe design)...

I bought the One Control Blackberry and your description of the BJFE version is exactly how I'd describe the OC version. I have a lot of OD pedals (Barbershop, modded Pork Loin, Pork and Pickle, Hooker's Green, Oxford, YYZ, 5th Gear (sold), Lucydreamer Bass) and the Blackberry is my new favorite.

I was searching for into on the Body knob's frequency and only found it detailed here. Are you sure of that frequency range?

They're close, but definitely different. I posted my thoughts here last month - Blueberry BOD Alternatives
