Did a rough assemble to see where I'm at. The SG body version of the EB-0 began in '61. It was a short-scale (30.5") like it's first iteration (body in the style of a Les Paul Junior) and mostly I've always felt because a standard 34" scale would certainly neck dive, as this bass does. I looked into extension's and found one made by a local shop here called SF Guitar Works which should solve this issue and still look acceptable.The bass weighs in at a nice 8lbs 4oz so that's good.

Any bass lacking a top horn will take a nose dive, unless you wear your bass like a chin strap. Your solution is very similar to my ASAT Strap Extension, 1/4" aluminum anodized black. When wearing a dark shirt no one would ever notice it. Although even while testing the ASE before anodizing nobody every noticed, including band mates. Sure was nice to have it hang like any other bass.

I spent some time playing the EB-DS Batwing bass last night. I have a box-set the Rhino did years back of late 60's psychedelic pop songs. 4 CD's filled with sub-3min songs (a lot of material!) It's fun playing along because they all have basic and predictable bass-lines and it sharpens my ear to where my fingers will need to go next on the fly. Anyway, this bass really fits that genre like a glove! I went through a 70's Fender Bassman 100 with the tone 99.9% off (on the bass) and it blended into the mix like creme in coffee. The Guild DS has a really nice tone with good balance and definition through-out the fret-board (although most of these songs are in the 'cash' register) Sort' like a P-bass, but sorta' like a T-bird. The poles don't line up exactly as these pu's are designed for a thinner (Guild) neck, but I notice no issues related sound-wise. The Epi neck is P-width at the nut with 22 frets, so modern Fender spacing. Positioning the pu down away from the neck assures it doesn't get muddy and bringing up the treble gets nicely clanky, but not too much so. I used 500k CTS pots and a (2A473J) cap I had in my parts box and have it strung with round-wounds. My 2nd bass was an EB-3 bought new in '71 but being a short-scale I never fully embraced it. (the bass that followed was a '63 T-bird - a big difference!) This is a fun bass to play!

Another thing to consider would be to attach a cylinder to the upper horn and then screw the peg in place with a long screw, like Ric5 has done here.

I was aware of that extension and prefer the neck-plate mount version both structurally and aesthetically.

I dig that album cover too! Crestwoods are cool Gibson family vintage basses - pretty much T-birds that balance better. I found this custom Crestwood Deluxe (Epi never made a Deluxe bass version) from someone in France. I'd rock this bass for sure! (but that hs is really long!) Can you say custom case?!

As far as something sticking off the upper horn - I always liked the Jetsons on-board transmiter on this 1968 Micro-Fret Orbiter. These guitars were so cool in so many ways!

Pick-guard done (went with gloss like the pu) - all that remains is a neck-plate based strap-button extension, which will be coated in satin black (or black anodized) I will be posting this bass in a few places for sale once that's done. Haven't determined a price yet so if interested feel free to make an offer. Played it some more last night - if you've liked the SG style body but wanted a 34" scale maple necked EB, this is a cool redefined Epi bass. FTR - the body is a laminate Epi and lacks nothing being so.

I was just was playing it over an amazing Sonny Sharrock song called Bialero (a French traditional arranged by SS) from '69. wow. Anyway, this EB-DS Batwing bass has something going on. And trust me, I have a stable of amazing basses - so if it was just meh, I frankly wouldn't bother playing it.

…and neck-dive issue sorted - for now raw aluminium but could be anodized, painted, polished or have black vinyl applied.

Peg/button could be mounted either side - I prefer the back mount, like on a few of my builds (requires one dedicated in/out strap-lok strap)

This one could work nicely. The Westone logo sorta looks like the Thunderbird icon.

I have it currently built-up as this, but it was only temporary as the parts/neck are for another project I need to resolve.

Got the Westone neck. Very cool but I may have to design a body for it. It's a full length 22 fret neck (no ledge) so adapting it to the gold-leaf Epi T-bird body would take a lot of redefinition and just wouldn't be ideal completed. No worries - another challedge/project keeps my game up. First thought is adapting my test clone (multi-joint wood) of the SuperB 5'r to be an awesome (passive) 4 string fretless with a Novak Darkstar pu and single stacked V/T pot like my Dark Sparkle P. If it sounded anything like the DS-P, it would be a killer fretless.

It has side-dots for every position - a favorite of mine for unlined fretlesses and I dig the red/white/black colour mix. I could do the body in a very rich/dark walnut/ebony stain with a big (blk/wht/blk) pg & ala Ampeg scroll bass w/red knobs. (and red tape-wounds?)
