i wouldn't expect any exposure worth having when you're playing with bands in other genres.

If you're good at what you play, playing something different from everyone else will make you stand out even more.

Sometimes a venue like this needs to give people a break from the "noise/energy" just to keep the crowd in control. Not much different than a cover band setting up a setlist.

when i used to go out a lot, when a band that slowed down from the previous band started to play, most people headed for the bar or the bathroom or went home or to another club. i don't like breaks from the energy, and it didn't look like anyone else did, either.

punk band doing an acoustic set is the odd one out here in my opinion. i've been to and played some weird mixed genre shows, most people were receptive or at least tolerated everything, and that was probably 14 years ago. you'll be fine

i had an everclear demo CD that, if it wasn't acoustic, had a lot of acoustic elements. it became one of my favorites.

i was dumbfounded when my husband played me some of his everclear to discover they are sometimes punk - the EP CD i had was nothing like it even though it shared some songs, but very different renditions.

Just reading through your OP, it seems EVERY act "sticks out" on this bill. What a weird lineup. It'll either be fun or a disaster.

Good on you! You've also confirmed why this was a bad gig with your selling tickets comment. With these types of gigs, a venue/promoter is essentially taking advantage of bands that desperately want exposure. They book you, then put it on the band to sell tickets to the show. Sometimes you actually have to buy those tickets and if you don't sell them the band takes a loss.

Instead of considering gigs like these, try to partner with a more established band and maybe get some opening slots with them.

Playing for an unknown crowd (that doesn' t care for you) is normal. Rock & Roll!!!! And take no prisoners!

Never let your fans pay, when it doesn' t feel right to make them pay!

They don 't pay to make you happy!
They don 't pay to make a (greedy) promoter happy!

They pay you to make them happy!
