Hi

Just out of curiosity, does anyone run two preamp pedals together?

I use a tone hammer Di/preamp. I rarely use, and haven't been a fan of the AGS circuit up until now.
I decided to have a play and I added my ampeg SCR-I preamp pedal to my board. I engaged both pedals, ampeg with the the ultra low on (scrambler not engaged -not a fan) with the AGS of the Tone Hammer. To me it sounds really good.

My EQ on the ampeg pedal and main amp remains neutral. I adjust the eq on the tone hammer pedal only.

Has anyone else had any luck blending preamp pedals?

I am not blending two preamp pedals...but what I do has is similar to what you are doing.

I run two channels to the mixer: 1. clean full range signal, 2. overdriven mid-heavy signal. Sound tech then blends it. It works very well.

In your case, TH with AGS on provides the ovedriven mids and Ampeg with acivated ultra-low provides clean lows and highs. It should work well too.

What I would recommend doing is to use XLR output on both pedals to send two signals to FOH. That way, the sound tech has control over the blend.

I haven't tried another way. I've only played with it at home and once at rehearsal. I had to get the gain just right for it come alive. Before the preamps I'm running the aguilar TLC compressor.

In my recording setup I run a SushiBoxFX Particle Accelerator into a Southampton Ictineo for a combination of the Fender Showman warm into a studio channel burnish.

Yes, i’ve used a few different preamps together, blended and stacked. Some combos work really well together.

I’m running dual mono out of two of my basses, mag pickups into a Jule Simone tube pre and piezos into a Phil Jones PE-5. I blend them back together in a Red Panda mixing pedal so I can control the levels, and it sounds amazing. And when I use a regular single-output bass, I split the one signal into both preamps so I can still play with the mix. Again, sounds amazing.

On occasion, I run a Fuzzrocious BDPG (which is, in the broader sense, a preamp) into a Southampton Ictineo into a Sushi Box FX Underground Accelerator into a Noble.

That's four preamps. If you like a very clean and articulated sound, this is not for you ;-)

I love using preamps blended in parallel, either summed to a mono output or with dedicated outs, currently using 4 preamps to run a "CLEAN"/"CLEAN" + DIRTY/DIRTY rig

Yeah people definitely do it. If you like the sound, go ahead and experiment! I almost ended up with two preamps but since the powers that be did not want me to have it, its pre into a fuzz now

Running >1 preamp/eq stage/ gain stage into your amp can be a confusing rabbit hole descent to oblivion....or a glorious, glass elevator to tonal heaven. The best sound my ears are craving these days is coming from a Sushibox Underground Accelerator >>> Quilter Interbass>>>the FX return of my amp.

Recently I started using the Boss LS2 to blend two preamps together- a Sansamp BDDI with treble and presence at 0 and the mids (500hz) cranked all the way, blended with a sansamp GT2 guitar amp emulator pedal, on the "Tweed" setting (I think its a Fender Bassman) and low gain. That way I have two volume knobs on the boss mixer, essentially Highs and Lows that I can tailor the ratio of for different basses. The GT2 channel can be replaced with any guitar distortion or fuzz while retaining a solid low end.

It's worked well so far but I'm still experimenting with it

I do this on my B6 on at least one patch. And if you have an active bass, you're already running one preamp into another as soon as you plug it into an amp Same as when I used a Darkglass B7K as my "preamp" essentially.

When I was using Bias FX 2, my main sound was a dual path setup split between lows and highs (and highs went through a guitar cab IR) and then mixed back together. It sounded really good.

I was going to make a similar post. I use a Broughton Messenger plus another Broughton "always on" HPF and run it through a Red Eye Preamp. Seems overkill for my DB but, 2 HPFs has been the secret to my rich tone that I am enjoying.

The Red Eye is just used as a DI out and I have the 2-channel version so that I can mute my signal to the board - the messenger doesn't mute the DI, only the line out. The treble dial on the side is nice as well.

I may have a $1K pedalboard with my Sarno Black box on there as well, but my DB has never sounded better and since I switched to in-ears, it's equal in price and easier to transport than a rig.
