Blew a kt88 in a mesa four 88......

Ok so now that ive heard from another member that ur a mesa tech yourself? Why in the hell didnt u just say that in the first place? And your right once again, not a tech, just a player. How bout next time, try explaining to me where i come from first, and how much you know about these prodigy heads before just saying: man, dont do it, u dont know what your doing. And more like, hey im a mesa tech, i would encourage you to call an authorized mesa boogie dealer with what problems you have concerning with your amplifier.........encouragement goes alot further with someone more than.......shag it nevermind.
It says so right in his signature, and under his avatar.

dude welcome to Talkbass, yes sometimes to find information it takes more than just starting a thread as a magnet for the answers to magically pop in.
and guess what, you were blessed with a knowledgeable answer, which should have clued you in the just perhaps the guy knows his stuff ....
chill. sit back and do a couple searches, read a few threads learn a bit--- a lot of helpful folks here.

but like most places:
walking into the room and picking a fight is somewhat frowned upon.

Some mobile devices do not display the same information as others, not on the tablet and desktop platforms, so in hindsight the confusion is understandable.

That said, whenever I visit another forum I try to learn about the culture and who is who. This way I will fit in better, and I avoid arguing with folks that know more than I do about the forum subject. It always works better that way, and I can learn more about things I want to know.

Aw common man. I Wasnt picking a fight an u know that. So ship the head back to mesa? Not sure if theyre any good authorized techs i trust around sc/nc.

Thanks. Ive been pretty successful at doing my own amp mods, cap changes, etc. I just dont go around on forums flexing muscles on how or what ive done an can do to a vacuum amplifier. Basically i posted just warning others with a bass prodigy, to not try to peak out the amp only on half power. Ive tried to explain to others who seem to be gurus on power tube amps that I believe mesa may have should have put an extra or two power tube in the four 88. If u look at almsot any other older, very reliable bass tube amp, youll see that even the 100 watters have atleast 4 6550s etc.... basically, i see that so far, that the four 88 is a cute, small footprint all tube bass head that cant take a round house punch from a bass string at 125w (probably was peaking close to 150) on two kt88s. Now it may be a problem with too high of a bias, cap issue, on and on. And when or if i blow another tube, off to mesa it goes. I dont plan on trying to blow another tube, but just in case. I just cant see a all tube 250w all tube head, get man handled (volume wise) and actually played like it should be, only housed with only 4 kt88s.
And of course i removed the copper and installed another fuse with a new cap lock, and , wired a 3 prong plug to it. (Then sold it for $300 lol) but sorry if it seemed like i was slinging poo on you electrical techs, i just dont have a degree in industrial electronics and dont know most of the terminology. Hell how hard is it to drain the caps and watch you tube vedios on how to build a diy amplifier......j/k.
Well you sound much more competent in your tech lingo now. Quite a change from earlier. Good Luck.

Oh, that makes sense. I've never used TB on a phone.

Didn't know you were on a phone, sorry.

Yes, AgedHorse is an engineer for Mesa. He used to be at Genz Benz.

Call the factory customer service guys and ask them for advice, I don't know many of the warranty service centers as I don't handle much of that sort of thing these days, but they will be able to give you the best options depending on your situation. I primarily handle the engineering and support for the class D and solid state type products.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. Alright will do, now dont start busting my balls again if they tell me to try a new fuse and a new set of tubes and check the bias and give it a go if they give me the green light........lol. (was going to call them today, not sure if theyre back at work yet or tomorrow)

Well find out how much is left on that warranty. And yes, u dog gone right.....but knowing my luck homeboy old horse will give them the heads up and theyll probably void it.....lol
Wow! The acting like a real person living in a society bit didn't last too long.
Life is too short to have a pissing match with some cranky old man.
Let me do you one more favor and take my leave of you.

If they recommend this, then you are covered in the event that additional damage is caused. If you follow how the process works, you will be better taken care of in the end. Sometimes flashover just destroys the tube, but sometimes it causes other damage. I do not know the service event history or any of the specifics of your amp, but caution ANYBODY who has an amp under warranty to talk to the manufacturer and follow their directions. Since this is not a product I am responsible for, I can't tell you what to do and then have you covered in t he event it doesn't work out.

I'm on your side on this, I want to see your amp get taken care of correctly.

I appreciate it. And like i told another guy on here, im totally human, 90% of the time wrong, 100% crazy. And no i didnt make time to use the computer and i would have seen your mesa badge. And i promise i wanst trying to argue. Im just opinionated and still somewhat skeptical about 250w being on only 4 power tubes. Yes i now realize that kt88s can power a major city, but just never seen it in any other amplifier yet. And im sure you understand where im comming from from a players perspective. But thanks again for your input. Tubes wont be here for another couple of days, and im sure mes cust. Service will take care of me. (Never dealt with mesa, never had to. This is my 5th? Mesa head ive owned now and never had an issue till now. Just concerned) anywho, nice to meet ya. Thanks again. D

Please do cause your nothing more than a fly on the wall. Ill listen and take info from someone who actually deals with mesa and can give me tube stats i detail. All you did was eat popcorn and watched me get schooled. Glad i put on a show for ya. But no respect from me
