In addition, over time soap will cause the tannins to darken in the wood around the hole due to the lye in the soap. I like wax.

Natural waxes will always remain, from an engineering point of view, in a fluid state. You'll rarely have a problem removing a waxed fastener from wood.

I have spent far too much time in Adobe Illustrator creating the artwork for the headstock decals. One for the front, one for the back, and one where the "offset comfort contoured body" decal would usually go.

I'm not, as previously threatened, going to finish this today because it's reached the final touch stage and rushing it would only end poorly.

Today I am concentrating on cosmetics. Not like, you know, Max Factor. I know a joke about that actually.

Anyhoo, yeah, so, I decided from day one I would incorporate a cheeky headstock logo and as previously posted have spent several hours on the graphics for that. I did quite a lot of resizing and fiddling but I'm quite happy now. I printed on plain paper until I got it right.

I have left the strings on for now so that I can line up the graphic with them. Nothing would look worse than a graphic at geometrical odds with the strings. It would be like, I dunno, an extra pickguard screw in that place where we all know there should be one. Only much, much, worse. Even flats couldn't save that.

So, being satisfied with the graphic I exported it as a PDF file and printed it onto some Hayes decal paper. I left the ink to dry for 15 minutes or so and then gave it three thin, even, coats of acrylic lacquer.

Once that is cured, and it doesn't really take long, we can go down the rabbit hole that is the fine and mysterious art of decal application. Trust me, this will be a lot of fun, and it's a skill you need but didn't know you needed it.
