Board/Pedal dilemma

One of these two paired with a single HX One could unlock many sonic combos. I'm looking into the Chroma Console because I loved the Microcosm.

Ive recently picked up the Chroma Console; i run it into the effects loop of a Coda. Marriage made in Heaven. The Chroma Console is ridiculously easy to use.

Just seeking some opinions.

On the board I have my HX One and it has bunches of great sounding chorus effects. I have a separate drive pedal, so doing my favorite mix of chorus and drive is no problem. But, there is one situation that has me keeping my little trusty Donner Tutti Love on the board. When we play Don't Stop Believing, our singer can't do it in the original key. She has to have it down a whole step. (I thought we had a girl singer so we could play all those songs with high singers, but I digress). Because of this, I am using my HX One Pitch Capo effect for downtuned songs. Thus, if I want that chorus on Don't Stop Believing, I need that little chorus pedal. I've thought about just not using it, but it just sound right on that song. Decisions.

I could say to heck with it and just open up the space on my board. I still toy with the idea (see other thread from the other day by me) of finding a compressor that is perfect for me. If I don't find one I can use situationally in the HX One, I will need to try pedals. That means either the chorus goes or the tuner goes. I can use the HX One tuner, but I really like having the Strobo Mini on the board for its accuracy and extra buffering.

Or, I could just stick it up with my amp and put it in my amp's effects loop. Stomping is not an issue as I use it for the whole song and could just walk over and push it before and after. But, it would only go through the amp and not to FOH, so it would be like the room is getting less than half the effect. And it would be one more thing to set up, so not sure about this option.

You could use the dual pitch algorithm on the HX One, and set the second voice to detune and delay a bit, giving you the pitch shifting and a chorusing effect in one preset.

Can the CC chorus and flange? I heard a demo someplace where it could sound fairly 80s.

Its got a phaser of sorts, but not a dedicated chorus, although the parameters for chorus are there, id imagine. Its like four stompboxes with five affectations each. Character, Movement, Diffusion and Texture. It is ridiculously easy to fool with. You just toggle. You can change the order, remove any of the four effects, blend them all.

I say check out the Line 6 POD Express.

Combo drive, compression, modulator (including chorus), drive / amp, USB interface, tuner. Keep the One for pitch shifting and as a utility player, replace a bunch of stuff with the Express.

I don't like the looks of the POD Express for live situations. But, I found a way to make the board work, whatever I decide to do compression wise. I think the LA2A model in HX One is going to be what I need for one song, just need to test it live. If I like the Love Squeeze or something else compression wise, I realized that I don't have to have my Harmonic Booster on the board when I am playing my active J and if I am playing the passive P, I can take my VMT off as I have B7K and Sansamp models in the HX One I can use for drive, amongst other options. It will work fine.

Appreciate everyone's recommendations.

I mainly play 4s. I'll play my 5 on certain gigs. Anytime Ive done "don't stop believin" it's been in E, so I just do it exactly like the record. However, dropping the low E to D and playing it that way is super easy. It sounds totally fine (albeit lower obviously)

Ahh right on. Forgive me I assumed you played 5str. My bad. But yeah if you can do the drop D thing and play it then do it that way. Or use your 5str for this tune and play it a whole step down. Either way trying to use a pedal or something to detune seems unnatural/ unnecessary to me. YMMV
