LOL...we should start a thread about baldness...I'm 42 and I'm "folically challenged"

I don't shave my head...but I do hit it with a #3 trimmer about twice a month (not hard, though...lol)...I'd shave it, but it would look odd with a full beard (wife loves the beard, gotta keep it )

I am hardcore and use a number 1 guard shaved it once but the wife was not happy she said it made me look more of a criminal than I normally do.

ok, how did we turn a cool build thread about a 9 string in to a 'bald club'.

I am not bald. I'm surprised, though. My dad is bald and all my uncles (6 of them) on my mom's side are also bald. Both my grandfathers had full heads of hair and died pretty old, so I guess it's true that it skips a generation. I hit a #4 on top and #2 on the sides.

Oh btw, any idea who else does cavity routes like you do? If i ever started building that seems to be the most logical way, i wonder if you picked it up somewhere or just thought about it.

Phil, what's the verdict on the pickups? Did you find a magnet and AWG you're happy with?

ehque, I don't remember if I ever saw this anywhere before. I started doing it because I noticed on my first or second build that when I routed once the whole body was glued up I would still go through the veneer and end up in the top. Looks more logical this way to me. It's also a lot easier to do since you can drill most of the wood out with a forstner bit and just finish off the sides with the template.

Extended range fretless? Oh yeah! Low F# and LOW C# on a standard longscale ("34 perhaps "35)? Oh no. What gauges did you have planned on those two? A low F# would require at the very least .175, which means a low C# would end up at minimum .210+... I reckon.

Yeah, but on the other hand, rule of thumb is that for every octave down, you should double the gauge. You don't tune to C# below E-standard with a .095, do you? In terms of tension, .195 @ "34 is very very light... Barely enough for a suboctave E, in fact.

Then again, depends on what you intend to play... I know for me that anything below 29lbs. is too light, since I don't drone on the low notes.
