Body repair

I have an Aria Pro II ZZ body (similar to Gibson Explorer) I want to repair before I refinish it. Unfortunately the previous owner did a Pete Townshend to it and cracked the body.

How should I repair this? I was thinking of drilling out a small hole through both 'pieces' of the break, filling with a dowel, and gluing and clamping together. Is this the right way?

Here are my two possible candidates for body repair. Originally, I had thought of only restoring the yellow one, but now I think I will choose the best of these.

Looks like they should be fine as long as you don't slam them around again. Neither looks to be in a place that will be stressed by strings or playing. If you can flex them to open up the cracks a slight bit (without breaking them apart), you could inject some glue into the cracks, clamp, and that should be plenty stable.
