I really like the offset, "Jazz-ification" of the lower bout. Nice choice!

Something looks a little fragile about the neck of the upper horn though, at least to me. Maybe the cutaway is just ever-so-slightly too deep or maybe shrinking the lower horn just makes it look "off" balance-wise? Either way I'm sure it is just a subjective thing on my part. Overall I think it looks great!! Very nice design!

The ball is too similar to Cliff Bordwell design ie ball bass!

Careful with the bottom curve where the bass rests on the leg. This needs to be a gentle curve! Otherwise it's not comfortable!

As far as the lower horn, if you're a fan of CB you'll know that some of his are sharper than this one.

Matteo, it's (the last one, just above) a very nice design. Personally I would loose the cat's eyes, but I understand that some people like to do Carl-like things.

Thank you all for the feedback, both positive and negative!

Yes, the ball look like a CB bass! I appreciate CB works, but i really don't like his shapes.

I made a Claypool replica with the same (a bit tighter)bottom curve, and it fits perfectly with my leg, but could be a problem for a "fat-leg" bassist :hmm:

Yeah! The "Jazz-ification" rocks!

The neck of the upper horn is wide as on the CT 3D scroll, so it could works. The little lower horn can trick the eye!:smug:

I hate/love cat's eyes, i like it in CT basses, but i'm afraid to use in my basses, but... the mahogany blank i have is too tight as you can see from the pic below, is too small even for a Jazz body. I need a big body for a 5 strings, otherwise the headstock will look too huge!
And i can't just put some mahogany there, it will be meaningless!
But if you have a suggestion it will bw welcome!

p.s. in this pic the body shape is longer!

Split the blank and add a center block.

Speaking for fat leg bassists, I say pleh. Looks fine to me. Tight curves are not necessarily uncomfortable.

I was about 75% through the making of this:

...when I had to scrap it because of various problems. But the tight lower curve was not a problem on this fatty's leg.

This could ba a solution, i have to check if a have a piece of the same mahogany....

Gorgeous bass! Yes your curve is tighter than mine.

What about making the maple that flanks the padauk center full body thickness lams and have them taper toward the butt just enough to compensate for the lack of body width. if that didn't make since, I can put a pic to gather..

similar to what PJ suggested.

Or since you were considering contrasting woods for cat's eyes anyway, you could split the block and put in a deliberately contrasting stripe or stripes.

dunno if i like this way...

i think i have understood

My problem with all this options is that this is a two piece body, i just joint it and now i have to saw the joint :crying: Sorry, but I really hate this idea...

I could turn the body inside the blank, but the body is no more inline with the grain... Probably this option will suck! What do you think about?

Another possibility is something like this below, a little stripe of a contrasting wood, and again some mahogany... it's not really a proper cat's eyes... :hmm:
